Joseph, the Austrian Butcher

Did anyone else just adore his character? He was the perfect match for Ruby, encouraging her progressive attitudes and appreciating her strong character. (I hope they didn't move to Petrograd, though, what with the horrors to come for the USSR.) His accent and look was quite swoon-worthy as well! I hope the actor appears in more roles.

I agree, he was the right man for Ruby. He treated her with respect, as his intellectual equal, but at the same time he was no pushover (she would soon get bored with a doormat I think).

I enjoyed the storyline of him wanting to move to the "utopia of the USSR" as it was seen back at that time for those who were fighting for class equality and a socialist purity.

It's good to be reminded how many people thought that the Russian revolution really was the start of a new utopia. That's why it was so sad that it ended up how it did under Stalin and successive dictators. So many people's dreams had to be dashed over that....including our sexy butcher.
