Hmmmm to me the ending was quite ironic in that T.E.A.R., after attempting to purify the world, ridding it of evil and all destructive human influences, was killed by its one last hope of a new pure race.
So yeah I guess you're right to presume the writers wanted to portray that hate, anger and jelousy are just a part of life and can never truely be destroyed!

Although it could be said that in the same way TEAR was corrupted by the Countess' heart, the New Human was corrupted by TEAR's influence; or that the New Human was indeed Kyoko, who in turn killed TEAR out of revenge for killing her brother alongside the whole of humanity; Yet another interpretation is that even those that claim to be god-like eventually have to answer to their own actions as well...

I'm not even sure it was Tear that she killed. It could have been herself that she poked with the thing. Tear was smiling. Both had blood on themselves. You couldn't tell who's blood it was. May have been intentionally left open.

I agree, wtf is this ending??

It says here for the explanation that Kiyoko (the girl who came out of the giant egg) was the mother of Tear, who would be her first child of the new human race but she killed her out of anger so it's ironic.

But wtf I don't understand is, why is Kiyoko chosen as the mother of the new generation after the cleansing flood? What if she never got pregnant? What if she got pregnant with some random human guy?

When most people become pregant and giant cooccon doesn't cover them. i know ther this is anime but come on. I think the point is that if you take away emotions all you are left with is logic. whe people look at things logically they can think up som pretty sick *beep*

I found it disapponting... Well, It is kind of a tragic ending, and many really good animes had such as well (Texhnolyze for example). But then, the fact that humans were not able to stand up, and that the Countess gave up so eagerly, instead of facing herself, naaaaah....
