Completely agree. Schindler's List was given the usual Holocaust Hollywood/Spielberg touch whereas this film shows actual human beings with 3-dimensional characters and their own individual motivations.
I loved the fact that Sally's character was so flawed yet also a hero. I loved the way they showed Burger's commitment to his principles, even when it threatened the lives of his comrades. I felt like I got to know the inmates of that camp far better than the characters depicted in Schindler's List.
A lot of Hollywood Holocaust films show all the victims as just victims, without any of the infighting, heirarchy and bullying that occurred, or indeed any of the nuances that make up human nature.
I was fascinated with this film from start to finish - I only watched it for the first time last night but I have been raving about it all day to everyone who I've spoken to!
