confused about freedom of speech

Freedom of speech is the concept of being able to speak freely without censorship. The right to freedom of speech is guaranteed under international law through numerous human rights instruments, notably under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, although implementation remains lacking in many countries.

"freedom of speech is fine but by God you don't do it outside of the country and you don't do it in mass publicly"

now my question is we as americans dont have our constitutional rights outside the U.S ??? in the movie you hear people say that they were outraged because the comment was said in a foreign country and thats why they were acting as extremist.

Huh? Their right to freedom of speech was never violated. It's just a law that states that the government won't prohibit what you say, it doesn't guarantee that other citizens won't disagree with you.

First of all, they weren't censored. Second, and more to the point: the right of freedom of speech is the right to speak freely without repercussion from the government.

So their rights were not violated. In some countries, speaking the way they did about the head of state would land you in jail for a long time, maybe forever. That's the great thing about this country, that they could return to this country without worrying that the government would punish them for what was said. But other people are free to not buy your records any more, etc. I don't understand what the fuss was about, but the people who reacted as they did, did not violate the Chicks' rights, excluding the ones who vandalized property, made threats, etc.

the ones who vandalized property, made death threats, the dj's who gave their home addresses out over the air, etc. THOSE are the ones they have the problem with, not people who simply chose to stop listening to their music or buying their albums.

I know that, but the OP was not talking about all the things you cite, they were merely making a claim about "censorship", which did not happen.
