Republican hypocrisy at its best

Natalie makes a 10 second joke about George W. Bush, and madness breaks out.

Sarah Palin gives Obama a "4" on a scale from 1 to 10 during the Barbara Walters interview. Glenn Beck calls Obama "dangerous...and must be stopped" on television and in his book. Not a peep.

So much for standing by the President.

Dude means nice guy. Dude means a regular sort of person.

Late to the thread, but anyway......

I don't agree with Palin or Beck, but will say that the context is very different from Natalie's comment. It's normal to have frank, open discussions within your own country about your leader. That's found in every free society - dissension and debate - and we get a lot out of those conversations, even when we disagree with the Palins of the world. But the key is that it is *within* the boundaries of the country.

Natalie, however, took it outside of the country, and made her comments on an entertainment platform. It came across as immature, graceless and unpatriotic. Given how many other US performers bad-mouthed Bush, her comments were not too unusual, but you didn't hear much about them running their mouth outside our borders. (Remember P Diddy being so sure Bush would get defeated in 2004 that he referred to Kerry during the campaign as "President Kerry"?) Although Natalie still probably would have alienated some of her fan base, she would not have generated such a high level of hostility if she hadn't griped about Bush while in a foreign country.

For the record, I agree with her, and was anti-Bush all through his administration. But I would never trash him in front of people from other countries. It's like the most-hated family member - you vent about them to other relatives, but they are family, and you don't trash them outside of the house. I work in a stateside company that is mostly composed of internationals - European and Asian. Since I cannot travel much anymore, I enjoy talking to people from outside the US since I can live vicariously through them. One thing that is common across all my international co-workers, regardless of what country they are from, is this: No matter how oppressive their government or third-world their economy is, they are proud of their homelands, and they *never, ever* publicly trash it. Natalie could take a lesson or two. After seeing her behavior in this movie, though, I think her ego is just too big to consider that she could have handled things differently.

Totally agree with you Katz5 - George W Bush was the worst world leader since Hitler and anyone who disagrees is completely uneducated. Good on you Natalie!

reply

Hey, Katz5. GET IT RIGHT!!! Hypocrisy doesn't recognize political stripes of ANY KIND. No one has a direct line to the truth.

Hold on. Not so fast. I don't see much distinction between the two parties. They're basically the same party with different shadings, but same BS.
