Oscar potential for famke?

anyone think this film might have an oscar chance (best actress famke janssen)

reply

we haven't even seen a trailer, so at this point, I'm guessing no.

reply

To be honest, I don't think so...this is not say Famke doesn't deserve it....indeed she certainly does...but like douces said, the tralier hasn't even been released so its far too hard to say...

Famke Janssen hit me!......and I LOVED IT!!!

reply

i think this could get nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor Rip Torn
Famke and Rip are very good actors
and this film seems character based
lets just hope they release it in the oscar season so it can get some consideration

reply

hmmm...I think we'll need to wait and see how the movie turns out! unless it gets a lot of exposure and a decent release, the odds are against oscar noms!

reply

well i dont think Peter o'tooles "Venus" got a wide release by any means
or too much expose and it got nominated for best actor
it made $35,604 opening weekend
and its total gross after oscar nom and all is $2,858,520 in 10 weeks

reply

that would be an exception rather than the rule...

O'Toole has been nominated before as well.

reply

3 of the 5 best actress nominees this year (volver ,notes on a scanderl , little children) were released in under 200 theatres b4 oscars
maximum reach was notes 200 theatres
more importantly is when the movie gets release
between october and december is best

reply

^again, blanchett and winslet are past nominees...I just don't get an oscar vibe from this movie. it will really have to knock it out of the park for Famke to get a nom- people just don't see her as a serious, dramatic atress. nominations aren't just based on acting- fame plays a huge part in it as well. I would love for her to get a nomination, though...I just want to be realistic :)

reply

as i said Volver made very little inboxoffice and penelope cruz is not very famous or an oscar nomiee
Turn the River actually has an oscar nominee in the cast in case you didnt notice..
Rip Torn has been nominated for an oscar before as well as 7 emmy nominations and 1 emmy win

reply

I'm going to say no as the film is about a woman who plays pool in order to see her son again. Unless the Three-6 Mafia do a song for the soundtrack, this film will see no Oscar love.

the hustler

was nominated for best actor

Unfortunately, since the film was released early in the year and it didn't really have an impact that the box office, she'll probably be overlooked for any Oscar consideration.

I do think she might deserve one, but the best we can hope for now are nominations from the smaller awards circles (like the Independent Spirit Awards, or the Satellite Awards), and the biggest thing we can wish for her would be a Golden Globe nod.

The film hits DVD this year, so who knows. Oscar winner Marion Cotillard's ("La Vie En Rose") and Oscar nominee Julie Christie's ("Away From Her") films were released in the first half of 2007, and were well remembered by end of the year's "Best of" lists.

reply

yeah, unfortunately it didn't have much of an impact at the multiplexes. I really, really hope she gets some kind of attention. At least an independent spirit award nom. Golden Globes are even more populist than the Oscars, so I don't think she has much of a chance there.

Hopefully, she has some big hits this year with supporting roles in Taken and the Wackness plus a possible theatrical release of 100 Feet will keep her relevant when awards seasons comes around!
