i dont know but the ending sorta was like... 'wtf' , as i was liking the movie but the ending was just out of no where and it dont make sense as far as i can tell.

overall i liked the movie but the ending i did not get at all, maybe someone can clear it up a bit for me and you.

as far as your question though... my guess is she did not die but i just dont get anything else.

my guess though is that very first scene or so when the kid gets those 'letters' has something to do with the end when he says 'hey kid, i got a letter for you' and then cuts off i just dont get what it means though... maybe she is writing him from jail? or what cause it dont seem to make sense to me... cause she either died but the letter part dont make any sense if she did and say she lived... is she writing him from jail? ... plus the kid showing up seems like since the cops where right here and obviously he did not get away as they where right there when that truck crashed into that street light thing saying she either died or passed out etc.... so obviously the kid was probably taken back to his dad etc... but i just dont get the letter thing and him showing up at that pool hall thing.

but lets just assume those letters where coming from her like it appeared in the beginning... does that just mean she's in jail writing him til she gets out or what?

cause i remember something about a postcard earlier in the movie... and even assuming she did not goto jail... the only thing i can maybe think of is... she sent a postcard to the kid and told him to goto the bar to get a letter to maybe tell her location in canada so the kid could possibly be taken there by the guy who ran the bar or something along these lines?

someone please explain it? ... cause the ending overall dont make sense to me.

besides that ending off the wall and out of no where i overall liked the movie... i probably give it a 7/10 and a weak one cause the ending slightly hurt it since i did not get it and it came out of no where.... if the ending had panned out better i would have gave it a solid 7/10.

the last scene is a flashback as Quinette does not recognize Gulley i'm entirely sure what it meant but i just watched it with someone who had a pretty interesting theory that since it was going back to the beginning (Gulley's first meeting with Quin) it meant that Kailey was still alive and as recklessly determined as she is things will go on a full cycle again she'd go to jail.. get out again..try to get him back again etc. she would never give up on getting him back.

and you should check out Famke on NIP/TUCK season 2 i think thats probably her best
Love & Sex is another really cool movie she is the lead in

sounds like a plausible theory....better than anything i got anyway. Understanding the ending or not, i loved the movie.

The ending is not meant to reveal whether Kailey is alive or not. If you listen to the commentary on the DVD, director Chris Eigeman says he really didn't want to end it on that very bleak note in the parking lot. Therefore, he flashed back to the beginning when Gulley first met Quinn.

reply

^^ Well, even if he didn't want to end on a bleak note, I was still really depressed after watching this movie. I'm glad they didn't tell you where she got shot, but I'm assuming she did die, based on the terrible noises coming from the car(or she passed out).

And it was a flashback-- the postcard Gulley holds in his hands was the Chasm Falls one, and he didn't seem to know where to go when he went to see Quin, unlike all the other times shown. I really like this movie though, even though it was mildly depressing.

And on a slight side-note, if you go to the DVD Extras, watch the "Final Shot" and it's really awesome to see that Famke did that amazing pool shot(it's called "Zelda"). Everyone started jumping up and down. =)

This is civilization, dang it! Where the heck is the Starbucks?

reply

Yeah, that was an amazing shot she made! And that she made it on her first take! Good thing she stayed "in character" so they could use it!

The ending is awful. There is no making sense of it. The flashback has no reasonably accessible significance.

The ending is left up for the viewer to decide what happened to her, but I'm sure she at least passed out since Gully was trying to shift and she wasn't pushing on the clutch so the gears were grinding and making that awful noise. I think she died which is really sad after everything she went through to run away with him. I think her blood on his cast, etc. was meant to lean towards death.

I was so irritated that Gully kept her letters, but I remember thinking when she asked him earlier in the movie if he threw her letters away and he said he did that he must be an awfully smart kid because NO ONE throws letters away when someone asks them to if the letters mean something to them. I wasn't surprised that he didn't throw them away b/c he's a kid and he's not going to realize that keeping them is dangerous. I just wish he would have at least taken her letters with him when they hit the road.

All of the build-up in this movie to the final escape scene only made it that more frustrating when they were caught. If this were based on a true story, then let it be how it ended in real life. But, if not, let the kid get out of a bad situation and let the mother be rewarded for rescuing him out of a bad situation.
