When Ralph came in with Duncan.

I don't quite get what the movie was trying to say when Duncan came back for the final showdown and Ralph came in with him. Quinette said something nasty about how Ralph's father would be dissapointed (paraphrasing), but I didn't really see how Ralph being there made (or could have made) one bit of difference. Any explanations?
