At the end when the cops are watching them take off

I thought they were being empathetic and would let her go, since her ex-husband is a total douchebag, but I guess not. I was really rooting for her too, but now she is probably dead or in jail. Funny how they would just stand there and watch as if they knew what was going to happen. Lazyass cops, and yet they hauled ass to get to Chasm Falls to even find the two of them. If the kid had thrown away all the letters and whatnot like his mom told him to, maybe they would've gotten away.

Hmmm, I guess you don't get that bit? Cars that are manual have 2 pedals, one for accelerate/gas and the other for clutch. It's kinda real hard to drive a manual with "one leg" as shown in the car.

But on re-watching, she gets up and runs after being "shot in the leg" so I guess the cops must've thought she would have been able to drive away or else it was really bad editing.

It's no surprise that the cops weren't moving. They didn't want to endanger the kid by shooting at her again when she was next to him. They had to wait for her to stop.
