What if she smashed his head and he still didn't die? He'd be hollering in pain and she may have gotten caught. MAYBE that's why she didn't do so. But, I agree.
shareI think -- for better or worse -- that sort of 'kiss of death' played into a sort of ... I dunno... romantic version of death. Short version. It was for the ladies. Smashing his head with a rock is not very romantic.
shareBest way would be to slit his throat. With a good blade, about as painful as a paper cut and loss of consciousness due to lack of blood pressure to the brain nearly instantaneous.
