It has absolutely no relation nor connection to the previous movie.

To Live and Die in L.A. is a dark and violent movie about counterfeiters and the Secret Service agents who pursue them.

To Love and Die (in L.A.) ("In L.A." apparently was part of one of the original alternate titles) is about a neurotic and kooky young girl trying to find her father and discovering that he is an assassin.

The "in L.A." part is particularly ironic since the show was filmed entirely in Vancouver, British Columbia and the police uniforms at the end of the show have "San Francisco Police Department"
