Cult Cassic

That is all.

No! not all, tell me more. This movie rocks my foundation, it's some kind of apotheosis, at least to me and my 30 years of cinemacraziness. (I didn't get into movies until I was 10 or 11, when mom mom took me to Chariots of Fire and i snuck out at the end I caught a bunch of bits in the multiplex, including a firelit kiss in Story of O, and the climax of Blade Runner! which changed me forever)

What do you think's worthwhile about it anyway?

reply

When Jack? Are you from the future? Tons of nerds and virgins here are counting on you being right.

That's a good name for it. I can see why it wouldn't appeal to everyone, but if you watched the show as a kid, then it brings back a lot of memories, and who wouldn't love that great theme tune?

YAWN.
5 years have passed and this is still panned by critics, the general public still doesn't care, it's not being studied by film schools as a success story that started out wrong.

What it has done though is EXACTLY what i said it would do back when it was still in theaters and all the fan boy trolls attacked and hated on me. DVD sales were flat, which meant they dropped the price on them quickly and dumped them into the $5 discount DVD bargain bins. And the BD disc also dropped to $7. It's appeared on afternoon cable, as well as a long run on Comcasts FREE HD OnDemand, and free sites like Crackle.
When not burdened with $12 ticket prices, and expecting the target audience of kids to sit through a long, and long winded narrative of 3 hours. The masses that didn't bother seeing it because they heard it was dumb, found it's not a bad movie.
(notice i don't call it great movie, a cult classic, life changing like finding Jesus)

It's not great, unless you are the die hard fan. To the rest of the world. it's an okay at best hokey racing movie that finally found an audience. But it took for it to be free or damn close to find it. Speed Racer was or never will be the next Blade Runner or Tron, I called it then and I'm just glad I was right the entire time. Because time proved the real trolls were the ones that couldn't handle that i told the truth.

All you did was reinforce my point. haha Did you even read those articles you linked.

Again, it KILLS you troll fanboys that I've always been right. So much so that you had to troll post trying tell me I'm wrong, only to post links to articles that just repeated the exact same things I literally JUST said. Clearly you did it just so you could troll me and say i'm wrong. But then turned around and supported my point. Which makes you look desperate and petty

Speed Racer will NEVER be the next Blade Runner or Tron. It will NEVER be more than a misunderstood movie. But only after people could see it for free or on the cheap did it finally get some respect. Sorry I was always right, and you just solidified that fact for me. So, thanks for posting those links and....um...proving me more RIGHT!

The thing is man, very few would disagree with you, this is not the next Blade Runner, this is Speed Racer, it holds on its own pretty well.

The problem here is the fact that you can't for the life of you see the broader picture, the fantastic panoramic view that is this film.

Tron and BRunner, they too have people that don't like them, still they are what they are, just as this is what it is, a cult classic for the inner child (that apparently, you lack).

reply

Jack when this movie totally bombed the fanboys said it will be a bigger cult movie than Tron or Blade Runner. Admittedly I never hated Speed Racer but the disgusting behavior of these fans was just the craziest thing I or or many have ever seen. Trolls....calling others Trolls, and believing their deplorable acts of immaturity and sh*t talking was acceptable just to defend their opinion.

I stress "opinion". Because Speed Racer on paper is a total failure, and a steaming pile of crap in every possible way. That however has never meant a movie would not be liked. I like plenty of terrible movies. Would I insult people over it? Make derogatory homosexual comments, say disgusting remarks about their families/children....all because someone didn't like "Johnny Dangerously"?

No.

But THAT is the level of maturity and and bleak reality of the kind of sick and 1 dimensional impedance of intelligence that makes up this boards fanatical "superfans". They are not happy enough to just love this movie. It MUST be loved by all. That simply isn't going to happen. and the reality is too harsh for them. For me? I love Speed Racer. It was my 1st Blu-Ray I bought. I don't lack the ability to enjoy a good movie, as you have so foolishly assumed. But I do HATE the people that make it an ugly movie to enjoy. I don't live here like they do. I get out, I have a life, I live in reality. I know that in real life people can agree to disagree and not everyone will have the same opinion as myself. Do I hate people that say "Speed Racer? Dude, that movie was stupid/sucked/dumb"?

Nope.

It's just a movie. That's the problem. It won't EVER be a cult movie not on Blade Runners or Trons level, Not on a classic 'Evil Dead' level....not even on a Troma Film level. This movie was decent but way to universally disliked to ever be embraced by the masses later. It's a lost cause, like 'Lost in Space'....terrible, horrid movie, but I loved it. It's NEVER going to be a cult movie, just like 'Speed Racer'. But that shouldn't matter as long as it is appreciated by those that love it. That's all that ever matters. Being abrasive, disgusting, tasteless and combative trolls with people is no way to spread good word of mouth about this movie...or any movie. A lesson none of these troglodytes that live here on this message board have ever learned in half a decade since this movie came out.

It's not called being "consumed" Mr. Brilliant, it's called...."e-mail updates" . For simple minded folks as yourselves who live here and maybe don't know, anytime someone replies to a thread I was in IMDb let's you know so you can rejoin a conversation if I choose....while I'm out enjoying a real life. THAT'S why I come back. You see unlike you, I don't live here. That's why when i talk, I speak clear common sense and truth. And THAT'S what pisses you off.

Perhaps you need to get offline for a year or so and get back in touch with the real world and reality before trying to mentally box with me. And try paragraphs when writing a book. You're dissertation on me is like a huge run-on sentence...and you think you're superior to me. Try learning sentence structure before calling me out as dumb. Clearly none of you don't have the capacity to step to me. Or you'd be mature enough to support that not everyone that doesn't support your opinions is a troll.
A troll talks non-sense, just to stir the pot. Kind of like how all of you are not able to prove me wrong so instead you call me names, spit vile hate, write novels about me, attack my character, tell me how stupid I am, say nasty things about my family, insult my intelligence, and while doing it...call ME a "troll" .....None of that matters. What matters is I speak indisputable facts and nothing I've ever said about the movie is untrue. And because of that you call me a troll.

It's pretty clear in the years that I've traveled the world, done things with my life and have years of great memories and all you have is Speed Racer and you're ever stewing hate for my honesty that you guys can't handle. that you all need to check off the "E-mail updates" box and need to get outside more and do something with your lives. Seriously.

Cult classic doesn't mean critics end up loving it a few years later *beep*

Never really watched the show, but that doesn't matter. This is easily one of the best "fun for the whole family" films of the last decade. It doesn't just ride the coattails of nostalgia, it actually a good story with amazing panache. Definitely a cult classic.

100% man, it is totally slept on as the great piece of action it is...

It plays with editing and composting on a pretty high level, the only other movie (off the top of my head) with so many abstract visuals which work for it is Scott Pilgrim...

Its likely to be a cult classic only because it failed at the box office.
