Lance Henriksen

I hear that Lance is in this movie.Has anyone else heard this?

reply

Yes, it's true; Lance Henriksen is in it. But don't be fooled, this is a low-budget cash-in on the upcoming Pirates of Caribbean 2. It was produced by The Asylum Home Entertainment(www.theasylum.cc). They've built their whole business on cheap cash-ins. You'll almost always see one of their DVDs on the shelves at the video store right after a big budget genre picture hits theatres(war of the worlds, king kong, etc.) Some of their movies are decent B pictures, but a lot of them are junk. So be forwarned.

Sadly, Mr. Henriksen was also in their recent Da Vinci Code cash-in called "The Da Vinci Treasure," which also stars C. Thomas Howell. No, I'm not joking...

reply

lance will be good in the movie no matter who it was produced by

reply

Yes, Lance is awesome. Give me a break though with that earlier post. Be warned? Nobody has seen it yet. Make your judgements after you see a movie, not based on the producer or ad campaign or other film.

Yeah, hey that last Paramount movie I saw sucked, be warned! I'm not gonna see Indiana Jones 4 because that's Paramount too!

reply

To Leigh-72:

You must work for The Asylum Home Entertainment for backing them up. I mean the first poster was clearly warning people not to be confused with similar titles. Which means, when Pirate of the caribean comes out to DVD, not to be confused with this movie which sounds the same.

Nice try though in defending your piece of s--t company.

reply

I absolutely work for the Asylum. That's why I don't hide behind a fake name, so everyone knows exactly who I am.

I have no idea who the other poster is, or you for that matter, but if you look at their other posts, they are hardly an employee of the Better Business Bureau. They are not trying to warn consumers about similar box art, they are slamming a company that they have a grudge against. That needs to be balanced and corrected.

I enjoy working here at the piece of s--t company. I regularly cash checks from this piece of s--t company. They are one of the few remaining truly independent film production companies left in the industry. And you know what, for every "rip-off" this piece of s--t company does, they allow us to make completely original films of a variety of genres with total creative freedom. That's more than I can say about 99% of the other people making films in this town.

You guys should all take a class in film business before you write off this company and what we do.

reply

leigh, when and where will this be released. On DVD or something like the Sci Fi channel?

Either way I will see it just because of Lance being in it. Been a fan of him since Aliens and Near Dark. Two major classics.

I enjoyed him in AvP, but he looked rather tired and sick. Though that was how his character is.

reply

The film comes out July 27th on DVD. It will be available at Blockbuster, Hollywood Video and Movie Gallery as well as on Amazon.com.

Lance is really cool and great to work with. He always wanted to play a pirate and had a great time working on the film.

reply

Thank you. :)

I'll be looking for it.

btw, is Lance's health ok? And I'd love to see him a new Alien film. Done as good as the first two were.

reply

Yeah, Lance is fine. In fact he did all of his own stunts in the movie, including the sword fighting.

reply

This looks like fun. I dont care if its cheesy or not. Lance always delivers, plus I love movies that come straight to video. Sure you dont always get the top notch stars or highest production values, but films like this also come from intellegient and creative people.

Give them a break until you watch the movie and can say otherwise.

reply

Hey Leigh, just wanted to say that for the most part I have been a big fan of the Asylum as well as your work. I especially like the original ideas by you guys such as The Monster Hunter. Good luck with Pirates man. Lance is a great actor, good casting.

reply

Thanks. Lance is THE MAN!

reply

I interviewed Lance Henriksen a couple of days ago, and he singled this film out as one of the worst he's ever been involved with. "The total pits" were his exact words. BUT he DID say he had a lot of fun making it.

Though you're fed up, throw your head up.

reply

Why would you want to buy this if you dont even know anything about this?

Costuming = crap
Acting = crap

a CGI giant bug? WTF?

reply

I agree, I really tried to get into the movie, but after 30 minutes I had to stop, it was just too horrible.
At first I thought that it was suppose to be a comedy on other pirate movies, but to my astonishment they were actually trying to make a serious movie.

reply

Really? We were serious? Lance running around talking nonsense, goofy wigs, guys in their underwear running through the jungle, asian martial art pirates, and giant bugs on Treasure Island. Yeah, we were going totally serious. No comedy intended. Damn, looks like Sundance is out:(

reply

You people are oblivious to the effort that goes into making a movie. Leigh, with very little money and lets not forget to mention the time schedule he is forced to keep due to the budget(maybe about 1/10 the time schedule of a average budgeted hollywood studio film) AND even with all that he is still able to complete an entertaining movie. His intent is not to make an academy award winning movie, it is to entertain and maybe even make you laugh.....even if it is at the movie not with it. Some may say Treasure Island is no Pirates of the Carribean......well pirates of treasure Island was made for about 150,000,000.00$ dollars less and about 1/100 of the time.....So I ask you, when you judge use common sense......And don't forget to rent Leighs next movie......For entertainment!!!!!!!!!!

reply

I don't get why people are pissed about cash ins...Its a very smart buisness move, and it is a buisness, it allows for better movies and higher budgets...So get over it.

reply

I'm not sure if Blockbuster doesn't care about your release dates, but I'm watching it right now. And it's not even July yet (ok tomorrow is but whatever).

reply

I would see it just to watch Lance...he is the man.

My dear friend...

If you watch my Asylum movies, you will see a dedication to continuity and an avoidance of crazy jump cuts. I know that Mervis likes to use tricky editing in his stuff, which I think gives it a unique style that works. Some other weird cuts...well that's up to the individual directors and editors. Just FYI, I hate them too.

Tommy Howell is actually very cool. You're not the first person to mention a negative response to him after watching the behind the scenes. That's just his joking personality. He fake plays a diva for laughs, then goes into the van/RV that we got for him and eats a subway sandwhich. He's totally low maintenance.

As for the titles, that's the IDEA! The titles are as unoriginal as possible. We strive to make the movies themselves very original. That's why I hate all these clowns jumping on us when they don't even watch the movies. Sure, someone else makes a killer clown movie with no studio tie-in, so let's give him the benefit of the doubt. But oh, no, The Asylum, they are evil incarnate. Losers!

Thanks for the support and for renting our movies. Hey check out DRACULA'S CURSE if you haven't. No jump cuts there!

Leigh

p.s. I'd love to respond to the 666 comment, but I haven't seen the movie. I'll take your word for it.

It's not trying to justify it to the Ebert wannabes, it's that a lot of people read these sites and don't know the back stories or who's writing what....

The format varies from film to film. The biggest budgets would have to be WAR OF THE WORLDS and KING OF THE LOST WORLD. I think DRACULA'S CURSE had the longest script, most characters, and most locations although it was made for the same budget as the smaller films. PIRATES was inbetween DRACULA and WAR OF THE WORLDS, but being a period piece could be considered the biggest in scope.

hey leigh, many props for taking the time to log on with us and share some thoughts and inside stuff.i've very rarely seen any of the people involved with these productions log on at all,to me that shows the character of the asylum team to be pretty deep!me and my girlfreind own several asylum titles including ones that you have written or directed(or both)and we just wanted to thank you for the cool ideas you've brought to the screen, for instance i really dug h.g. wells war of the worlds,as well as pirates of treasure island and we're really looking forward to checking out the beast of bray road and king of the lost world!i've also wondered what you could tell us about exorcism, death valley and deadmen walking,i've almost picked up these titles several times,i'll buy movies all the time without seeing them strickly based on the actors'writers'directors,or who produced them.hope to hear back from you!p.s. all the haters on these message boards trip me out,i just dont know what they expect from low budget horror,it is just that,if you take it for what it is you wont be disapointed.stop expecting everything to be goldenage horror classics and get open to the cool ideas,at least thats what we do,thanks again leigh........faceuno

reply

thanks for writing back leigh,my girlfriend and i also thought you might like to know we saw the sci fi channel's premire of the beast of bray road and that movie rocks!by far my new favorite movie of yours, some of your best work!i was also wondering if you knew where we could buy it,we've searched around and could only find it for rent and it's a must have.we will eagarly await any up coming projects of yours!hope to hear from you sometime soon, cheers mate...faceuno

reply

I'll chime in and say that I did think When a Killer Calls was superior to When a Stranger Calls. Now that's not saying much considering When a Stranger Calls was one of the WORST horror movies in recent memory. Beyond the impressive set design/production values, everything about that film was atrocious. I've shot better wedding videos.

I still can't say anything positive about PoTI though. I know it was intented to be funny, but the film was simply too rushed and low-budget to be effective in any way. Lance looked old, tired and bored. And the film was ridiculously short. 73 minutes with titles and end credits? Come on, it might as well been streamed over YouTube...

reply

God i would have loved an asylum version of Silent Hill, that would have rocked.

reply

I'm really excited to watch this. My friend is sending me this DVD soon, otherwise I didn't know it had been released. I'm a huge Lance buff, so I can't wait to see this regardless of the budget.

I read the above post before me and I'm disappointment that Lance singled this out as the worst film he's ever done. Glad he had fun doing it though and he did his own stunts. Very cool.

Why the quotes around "Mervis"? He's an actual guy. You don't really think that I could direct that many movies in a year do you?

Also, we have very different styles. There is no way you could watch a Leigh Scott movie and a Peter Mervis movie and think the same guy did them.

It's not mics that are the problem. We mic everything on set. Something bad happened with this film when the sound mix was exported to the DVDs. Future DVD releases and the airing on the Sci-fi channel will be better.

reply

Have you seen Mervis and Scott...How could you think they are the same person...plus, as Scott said..Check out the Directing styles...

i liked Dead Men Walking. Lance is probably my favorite actor, and you should have used his talents in a zombie movie instead.

The only thing I didn't like about Lance in this movie was his stupid accent. Besides that, he was pretty cool.

Ramones, the best band ever.

reply

Hi you make the type of movies that are good to watch at Sci-Fi marathons, your there for a fun time and bring your sense of humor, thats how I accidentally saw Toxic Avenger,I thought it was a trailer at first but it never stopped. Love Lance in any movie he is in, this movie won't be the worst one out there I remember a Sean Connery movie that we clapped because we were grateful it was finally OVER and no it wasn't the Green Knight which was also bad. Thanks for the entertainment.
