Quick Review
I've seen Everything's Cool at the Salt Lake Sundance screening.
This documentary introduces the viewer to some of the already visible effects of global warming, as well as some of the people who are fighting the lobbying efforts of the multi-billion dollar oil industry and trying to get the word out about these adverse effects. It is fascinating to see how dedicated these people are, and to glimpse into their backgrounds and motivations. At the same time it is frightening to observe how convinced they are that disaster will strike within the lifetimes of their children and that it will have profound effects on humanity as a whole. One of them even expresses his love/hate relationship with speaking in front of young crowds. On one hand he finds opening these young minds and initiating a conversation very rewarding, and on the other hand he feels he is delivering horrific news to them.
The filmmakers chose to lighten the subject matter with the occasional joke or funny moment, which doesn't quite feel appropriate in some cases, but provides a welcome escape from the onslaught of gloom-and-doom predictions.
I recommend seeing the movie even if you are not particularly passionate about the topic of global warming. Just seeing a group of people who harbor such a dedication for a cause is worth seeing regardless of the cause itself.
Almost everyone who was involved in the making of this movie both on and off camera came for the Q&A after the movie, to underline the message in person and to provide guidance to the audience on how to fight global warming, and how to influence their political representatives. Even Salt Lake's mayor, Rocky Anderson showed up to chime in on the subject.
