There's a reason the BBC is reveared the world over and Born Equal was a perfect example of it, they constantly manage to maintain such a high standard of Drama that other TV companies (Like ITV) just can't match, only Channel 4 comes close, and it's not that close.
Plus if it drags out over a couple of 1 hour episodes i lose track of who everyone is and whats been happening! I really hate ads! They are ruining tv! plus they make you eat more!
there wasn't much of a point to the Nigerian sub-plot......then again none of it seemes to come together.
SPOILER:
I liked the idea of a pissed off Robert Carlyle seizing his chance and stabbing Firth but all over almost hitting him with the car, it seemed like they wanted to put it together somehow and couldnt think of anything thereby leaving the Nigerians plot completely separate and having the other 2 stories "meet" like that.
I was expecting more from the ending. What about the 17 year old girl? Is firth dead, or just wounded? Is his wife alright, or did she get attacked too?
Is was a very good production but the ending was awful! I thought it was 2 hours so right until the credits started to roll I thought it was moving at a great pace and was building up to an amazing end.....then the credits came on and I was stunned.....definitely needed more at the end......an extra 15 mins couldn've sorted that
With regards to the end, I thought that Colin Firth had died.
You see Michelle with her baby in hospital and even though she has nothing, you can see a faint glimmer of happiness in her face as she holds her new baby.
With Colin Firth's wife, all you see is her sitting alone in her room turned away from her baby and not paying any attention to it. It almost looked as if she had rejected the child.
I interpretated it that he was killed because Robert Carlyle was really upset that his mother had died before he had a chance to see her - plus the fact that he had killed before meant that he was in a fragile state of mind - then Firth came around the corner in his car, nearly hitting him over, unintentionally of course. Carlyle just got jealous that Firth had it all whilst he had nothing and just snapped - just a case of wrong place, wrong time for Firth! (Being a huge fan of Colin I wasn't too happy about the fact that his character got killed off)
After she had the arguement with Firth, who told her that nothing could happen between them because he was married and about to become a father, he walks off from her, feeling very angry and upset, just leaving her sobbing in the street.
Or maybe because he was married and about to become a father! There was no evidence throughout that she was involved with drugs - she just misinterpretated his good intentions.
