yemi was a journalist who had to escape nigeria after he wrote a article, his father was being terrorised and feared for his life, he needed £5000 to get him out, he lived in London with his wife, a maid at a rich house and his daughter, they seemed very, good honest and hard working people, he was working in a kitchen.

His wife worked at house they had everything, very rich, drawer full of money always open, she shut it.

then she learnt about father in law, and her husband said he would go back to Nigeria, which she knew meant he would be killed, she broke down crying at work, her boss said Oh dear, come and talk to me, it will be alright, but did not offer the money. And siad she had to go dinner party.

So she took money, her husband made her take it back, she got caught taking it back, her boss fired her, said she wished she had asked, and she was sad because she liked having her there. her husband phoned home to be told his father had been killed.

Robert Carlyle, had just got out of jail, was in hostel, felt like world thought he was scum.

Had loved his Dad and hated his Mum for kicking his Dad out when he was 12

his Dad was an alcoholic and beat his Mum, he died when he was 16

In jail he saw loads of people like his Dad and he realised like him and he wanted to change and was here to find his Mum and make it her to her and be forgiven

there he meets a pregnant Mum and her daughter who live on the same floor who has left a husband who is beating her, they form a close friendship.

he is haunted by an incident of violence in his past and has flashes from it

he finds out his Mum is dead, turns angry at his new friend, goes out on the streets

Mark CF's car turns the corner he flips

walks up his stairs with a knife in his hand

then it cuts to him being arrested, has he killed Mark, he has blood on his hand, or was this another flash back

She leaves her husband, final straw he threaten to hurt their daughter Danielle, she is pregnant, is very wary of Robert Carlyle character at first, but very touched, when he buys her flowers, she grows to love him, as their friendship builds, and I think hopes he will be father for new baby and Daniella.

When he talks of all the posh houses, and what they all have, she says she does not want what they have

WHEN HE GOES OF THE RAILS AND IS NASTY TO HER, SHE IS SO HURT, SHE GOES INTO LABOUR AND GOES TO HIM AGAIN, he is not there

she goes to the hospital, danielle her daughter is very upset when she is taken to a foster home because her Mum will have to sat in hospital overnight


the film ends with her crying over her new baby

all these characters lives are interwoven

I think it's more about what each character represents.

Mark could be a individual, a corporation a country

We all live under the same sky, so if the world is corrupt we all will be affected.

It's not simple and without difficulties to try to help, but we need to try.
