Does this remind anyone else of...

...Series 7: The Contenders? Another movie made several years ago about how reality TV is getting way out of hand.

reply

fact is, all these movies stem from the novella "running man" by stephen king

he predicted the rise of the reality show almost 20 years before the first one was made

Actually, "The Running Man" itself is very similar to a short novel written by Robert Sheckley, "The Prize of Peril" (1958), made into a movie in 1983.

Here is the plot from IMDB :

"In a futuristic society, contestants pit their survival skills against each other in a fight to the death for cash prizes, and the contest is aired live on television."

ACTUALLY the Sheckley-novel already made it onto the screen in 1970.

Series 7: The Contenders was a most wonderful film. I recommend it all the time for the Joy Division 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' parody video.

it also reminds me of a book by chuck barris (confessions of a dangerous mind) - The Big Question. It came out a few years ago and is his view of where reality TV is headed (ironic from the man who created the epitome of bad game shows). In it, 3 contestants have to answer one question - if they get it right, they get $100 million; but, get it wrong and you're executed on live TV. Scary thing is that it's set in 2011 (2 years away) and does such a good job of blurring the line between fiction and reality that it is eerily possible to see this as a plausible future not that far away (please help us all).
