LADY SINGS THE BLUES

Why does the Lifetime ad (that seems to play non-stop) for this film look like they totally stole every Visual from Lady Sings The Blues?
Is there no originality anymore? No creativity?
Perhaps I too can be photographed in a bathing spotlight with a flower stuck to the side of my head.
Just look at the ad art for Lady Sings THe Blues.......

Yes, I imagine the Lifetime producers and Debbie Allen sat around the table and thought: "Yeah, let's use the exact same artwork for Fantasia's cover that was done for Diana Ross' movie 34 YEARS AGO!

C'mon, no one is thinking that and there is a generation that has been born and grown up since then. What majority of people would actually believe someone's artwork was "stolen".

Copyright laws do exist for a reason, you know?

I agree, plus since Billie Holiday and Fantasia are both singers/performers there shouldn't be any surprise that they both would be on the stage (performing) in a dress (girls wear dresses) and there is nothing wrong with women wearing a flower in their hair.

In other words, they can possibly look the same but they are totally different. Now, if they had fantasia up there singing one of Billie Holiday's songs then yeah, it would look like they were copying, however, Fantasia was singing one of her own songs.

Obviously at least two people were thinking it....myself and the marketing department.
When is the last time you saw the cover art for Lady Sings The Blues?
Who cares if LSTB was done 34 years ago...does that mean that after a certain period of time you shouldn't attempt to be original instead of a knock-off?
No, it's not that I think they sat around the table deciding to steal an art concept, I think that that image has become "Iconic" and unfortunately overused.
It's so Dramarama. So....70's and 80's.

Some people find fault with every little thing....its not that big of a deal with a flower

reply

And some people like original thinking.

Oh cry me a river. Turn the channel if you're so offended that Fantasia is singing on stage with a dress on and a flower in her head. Because God forbid she sings on a stage...she's so unoriginal...lol.

reply

I didn't say I was offended...I didn't say she wasn't an incredible singer....
I said that the way she is presented is not very original....which is too her detriment - not mine.... thngs that are original, not rehashes, tend to stay in people's minds. Of course, if you're stricken with tunnel-vision, have had little exposure to culture, it's completely understandable.
You all need to get a life.
The same people repeatedly posting and obsessing over a movie. Yawn. I'm surprised you people aren't noting how many sequins are in her dress, how many minutes the movie is, which hairstyle makes her sing better, and dare I say, argue as to who will direct the sequel. No doubt you all will be posting maniacally(as fast as your little fingers can type) during the commercial breaks.
Keep repeating..."It's only a movie...it's only a movie..." Then tell yourselves, that if you were out getting a life and doing something interesting and meaningful, they might make a movie of your lives.....
But trust me, Lifetime [like they know anything about making movies other than those about people with drinking problems who have been abused while recovering from drug addiction while looking for a long lost parent/child while dying in a hospital.......]is not rushing to make a movie about people who have nothing better to do than obsess on the IMDB board about the same movie over and over and over and over.......

I just think its sad that people have the time to notice this kind of stuff.

no offense, sexorcist. Interesting name, too.

reply

Sad, or not, it doesn't make the comment any less valid.

Well, she did sing a Billie Holiday song at the end. And the end of the movie was very much like Lady Sings the Blues. I still enjoyed it thought..nice story. I'm happy for her.

reply

There was one or two new songs she song in the background. I hope they show up on her new CD, they were really nice songs.
