Do you not have respect? its her first time acting in a movie about her life, which was sad and un deserved, be happy you had/ your having a good life. She isnt the best actress in the world, but she sure did a damn good job acting about her life.

reply

I thought her acting was a heck of a lot better than your typing!

(Sorry, couldn't resist! :)

reply

For a FIRST TIME acting gig (with no formal training); she did very well.

reply

I would have to say that she wasn't evenacting. It was just real

I wonder how many biopics there are where nonactors portray themselves. Fantasia is a singer first. Considering it was a starring role and she is not a "professional" actress, she did just fine.

Natalie Cole "The Natalie Cole Story"
Eminem "8 Mile"
50 Cent "Get Rich or Die Tryin'"

They all portrayed themselves, but critics seem to have a problem with only Fantastia for some strange reason.

To me, I think that takes guts. You're basically reliving all the strife you've went through and that's a challenge for most people to even think or talk about, let alone act it out. Plus it makes it a bit more accurate than the stuff where the person the movie is about is not really involved in the project. It makes it more believable to me cause I have a hard time believing most biopics.

Heh...

This biopic has become the stuff that the Lifetime (women's) Channel is made of; in terms of acting, script, direction or any other production value, it stands side-to-side with every previous prototypical made-for-tv movie about a woman done wrong (usually if not always by a nominally attractive man they totally invested themselves into who later on revealed a 'dark side' [and she fights/flees not for her own sake but for the safety and sake of the kids]) but like the phoenix emerges renewed from the ashes.

Then it becomes a testimony to be shared (*cough* plugged) on Oprah.

It won't earn an Emmy (c), but (here comes another great overdone statement), "if only one young girl sees this movie and gains the courage to break the cycle of abuse and pursue her dreams".....then it was all worth it, right?

She was TERRIBLE.

What makes it worse it that she was actually playing herself.

I thought it was okay. But that scene when she was being raped..she didn't sound very believable if you know what I mean. Just a fake, sort of tired "Stop...stop...STOP".

reply

I think Fantasia did well in this movie, especially since she isn't a professional actress.

reply

Not only was she not a professional actress, she only became "professional" (in the public eye) period after the American Idol season.

I've seen her in music videos since, and I have faith that as she becomes more seasoned, she'll be just fine.

I think the biopic was premature, another 10 years would have made more sense and give a sense of historic perspective
