I went through my pack of Kleenex tissues just watching the movie. Yeah, that scene was pretty intense to say the least.

reply

I cried through a lot of parts in this movie but I do admit this scene made me flow tears for at least like 5 minutes....lol

reply

i liked the church scene but it was rip off of the color purple when shug walked through the doors at her daddy's church.

I'm not a scholar or a film critic. I'm just a chick that saw the movie and formed an opinion.

reply

^^ LOL exactly but I did like the chruch seen also. And Tyler Perry himself ripped that scene off in his movie Diary Of A Mad Black Woman as well.

Hey, as long as they were able to pull it off and be successful at the "church scene" it doesn't matter where they got it from. Ideas have to come from somplace, however, they made it work for them.

I laughed because they ripped off the "The Color Purple" scene

Damn!! My posts attract so many nutty B-A-S-T-A-R-D-S!

The archtype of the prodigal "backslider" walking up the aisle to seek forgiveness and reconciliation existed in the black church long before The Color Purple dramatized it. Nor is it a new idea that the prodigal would express his/her repentance via a passionate and emotional rendition of song. The truth is, The Color Purple didn't invent that image - it just tapped into a very old existing construct.

reply

i cried and was surprised since i just flipped the channel to the movie for about 2 minutes. But the scene reminded me the Color Purple scene with Shug singing to her father who disowned.

reply

it was over the top to me. imo the worst scene of the movie.
