This film is supposed to be set in a community of Welsh immigrants right? So why have all the characters got strange Irish accents? Also a lot of the music played throughout the movie is Irish music! You could argue that it is Celtic and thus must be right but there are strong differences between Welsh and Irish Celtic music (and accents for that matter!)
Do your research next time people!
Seriously, I would have to say this is a pretty minor thing that falls under continuity... every movie has issues like this. It is a lot easier for the (hopefully) millions of viewers to pick up little idiosyncrasies of a movie much easier than the group of editors or even the research staff prior to filming.
I live in Chicago, IL and as many movies as there are filmed here every year, lots of the same things get messed up time after time. Actors are supposed to meet at a cross-street of 2 streets that run parallel to each other, they catch a train at a stop that that particular line does not run at that stop, etc.
Don't slam a movie because the people do not know the particulars as well as everyone else, after all, this movie is for entertainment purposes, it is not a documentary and certainly not supposed to be historically exact.
Yes I agree with the first comment. No one these days should get the welsh accent wrong. All an actor has got to do is listen to Anthony Hopkins or Catherine Zeta Jones on a talkshow, or view a movie with Richard Burton in it, and there you have it, the welsh accent!

So if a film was set in New York and everyone had strong Canadian accents, then this would be a "pretty minor thing"?!?

In their community, only the oldest folks are the actual immigrants. The adults (parents) and all the children were born in America. Some of the immigrants are Scottish, some are Welsh. The reason their children would not have a "pure" welsh accent would be because of the mixing of the Welsh and Scottish people, and the differences in their accents being what their children (the parents/adults) would hear and adopt for themselves, and subsequently, their children (the children) would have even more muddled accents.
Don't believe me?!?! Try being born in California, living there for 15 years, and then move either to the South, or up to New York, live there for a considerable number of years, or vice versa, and see how your accents would change. If the book and movie were set in Wales, I could understand your irrateness over the accent, but give it a break already, the accents weren't supposed to be pure Welsh accents.
