Avoid unless you liked Little House n The Prairie

This movie should have been made and shown for saturday matinee way back in the 70's 80's.
As mentioned before the welsh accent was cringeworthy, but the scriptwriter should have been shot for making a 5 minute story into 100 minutes worth. The thrusting of christianity down ones throat as though the world needs religion imposed on it any more than it is at present beggars belief. If you are young or quite happy to waste the time letting this lightweight piece of drivel engulf you for a night then alls well. If you are not then give this film a wide berth and lets hope Mr M Landon never gets the chance to make anymore mind numbing tosh like this again.

if you think that its a waste of time watching it, then you were the one that wasted it. its your fault. no one is shoving Christianity down anyones throat. its your choice to go see it. and your comment wasnt tolerant at all! it was intolerant of all Christian beliefs. lastly, whether you like it or not, it is the truth and the truth cannot be changed. whether you accept the truth is up to you. if you do, good for you. if you dont, youre damning yourself. it is not more relative than saying the fact that 1+1=2 is a relative statement. in my comment, i dont strive to be tolerant or intolerant, so dont criticize me for being intolerant. thats like saying if someone believes 1+1=3 instead of 1+1=2 and you correct them, that you are being intolerant. im sick and tired of everyone attempting to be so politically correct and damning themselves and alientaing themselves from the truth in the process.

What you say is not a fact. It´s a dogma. Christianity is not based on facts.
To the original poster pacs pad: I am not Christian, so for me, the film was a little overdone with that, but sill... I don´t think, they were shoving it down our throats. When the "man of God" showed up on the screen, I thought, that I will not watch anymore (you didn´t have to finish watching either), but I did, and am glad for it. Peter Wingfields performance was just amazing, so it was worth it. And the movie itself was not so bad also.

Christianity isn't based on facts? Oh really? I hope you'll have something better to say when you meet Him, as we all will...

reply

if it was based on facts it would've been a science ^^
well, to each his own... when he sees Him I think He will only be concerned about the life he has been living and not the foolish believes he may have had.

:) Thank you. Exactly my point.

I meet "him" whenever I meet his proselytizers (like you).
he's a piece of imaginary s%*!

Really, wall-1, Christianity isn't based on facts. Can you produce a single one to verify it?

I can never understand why some believers need to assert that their personal faith is fact-based. The concept of faith in Christianity is accepting something (that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior) in the absence of quantifiable proof.

To claim otherwise rather cheapens your faith, since it's not so much a leap as a baby step.

The only "fact" about Christianity is is that it is a blatant ripoff of earlier pagan religions. About 90% of your Bible is plagiarized material.

The Bible is a book written by men. No true God was in any way associated with producing that error-ridden, self-contradictory dung heap.

The only reason I rented this movie is because of Peter Wingfield - I'm a big fan of this wonderful actor. In that respect, I wasn't disappointed, his performance was a highlight of the whole film. Now, I'm not Christian, and the "preaching" bits of the plot held no interest for me and quite frankly, bored me silly (and yes, during the Man of God's speeches a few times I got a distinct impression I was watching a televangelist show). But basically, I took the plot at face value - after all, it's quite likely that early Welsh immigrants in that region did continue for a while to practice their ancient rituals like the Sin Eater, and it's extremely likely that more than one Native American village met the fate similar to that mentioned in the film.
The accents didn't bother me too much, and I thought the girl that played Cadi Forbes did a very good job. Overall, I certainly won't be watching this movie again, but it was an OK way to kill a couple of hours. Although, I do admit, I kinda kept watching because I read in a Peter Wingfield interview that he finally gets to show his face in the end of the movie, so I was waiting to see how that would happen :)

An average movie.
A bit dis-jointed at times.
And I don't think anybody is trying to shove Christianity down anyones throat either. Boy, Christianity sure takes it on the chin, when anybody includes passages from the Bible in a movie.
Talk about intolerance.

Fighting for truth, justice and the American way.

..or as MAD Magazine called it "Little House O' So Dreary"...

My wife rented this thinking it was a horror film. She loathes 'Christian' films, so I was surprised when she went ahead and watched it all the way through. Anyway, I am a Christian and she, well... let's just say we 'agree to disagree' on many issues, which is perfectly fine with me... it makes life more interesting.

On to the film. Tedious, predictable, well-acted (for the most part), pretty much what I expect from most Christian / inspirational movies. What?! You make a statement like that and you say you're a Christian?! Yes. Just because I'm a Christian doesn't mean I CAN'T appreciate good cinema (even Rated R or 'so-called' non-family values films). I get so tired of Christian-oriented studios pumping out low-grade fare so they can put Jesus in it somewhere. They usually find some washed-up actor/actress from the 70's or 80's to be in it then release it straight to video.

I did however didn't think it was too 'pushy', but it doesn't take CSI to figure out who the 'person who has already taken all your sins' was going to be. PLEASE. I can say that Henry Thomas was pretty decent in his role and I did appreciate that he died. Why? Mainly because the director had the 'guts' to show that not all Christian movies are PAX-filled and 'happy clappy' affairs and that he did die defending what he believed in. Many people have died either by spreading the Word or defending it, but I have a hard time defending poorly-written drivel no matter how good the message is supposed to be.

Well said for the right ears and so true, I hadn't read anything about this movie beforehand so I was kind of open minded about it until that self-proclaimed priest began to read from his booklet, from that moment on it went downhill with a dazzling speed, more of a free fall rather. Still hung on till the end stunned by this unbelievable obtuseness... The girl played her role fairly well though, or was that because of the rest acting so abominably. Seems rather redundant to make a movie for the last two Christians of this world or have they passed in the meantime, been converted to Islam at gunpoint, maybe?
A waste of effort in any way.

reply

There are well more than just 2 Christians left in this world, and if people are true Christians, not even gunpoint would make them turn their backs on Jesus!! Don't watch movies with titles, like the last sin eater, if you don't want to be faced with the fact that ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, therefore needing the grace that is given through the blood of Jesus on the cross for the forgiveness of sins.

It is an excellent book, and an excellent movie. I enjoyed the acting, and didn't watch it with a critical attitude of actinig ability or did they get the accent just right. I watched the movie and read the book with an open heart to hear the message God/Jesus/the Holy Spirit convey through it.

reply

Finally someone actually mentions that it's based on a CHRISTIAN book! Thank you.
Christianity is based on fact. No one denies that a man named Jesus did actually live and was crucified by the Romans... the dispute is whether Jesus is God or not. I believe He is my Saviour and he died for my sins. That is what Easter is all about. Celebrating and remembered what God did for us. He created us, He loves us and He wants us to be with Him. God sent his only son down to earth as a frail human. He sent him to die on a cross for the sins of the whole world, not just the people of His time but for EVERYONE past, present and future. He bore our sins on that cross and decended into hell. But he overcame satan. He broke the chains that bind us to sin. God is all merciful. He forgives us if we believe and ask forgiveness. Even a murderer who comes to a knowledge of Christ is forgiven.

I think you are all forgetting why the book and movie were made. It is not forcing Christianity down anyone's throat. The book was written as a Christian book to the glory of God.

I have not watched this movie as yet because I didn't know it existed until today. I have just finished reading Francine Rivers' book Redeeming Love. God's love is certainly amazing.

I pray Lord that you will open the hearts of all those on this forum who do not know the Truth.

“Not Guilty Anymore”
Aaron Keyes

“It doesn’t matter what you’ve done, doesn’t matter what you’re coming from, it doesn’t matter where you’ve been. Hear me tell you, I forgive.

You’re not guilty anymore. You’re not filthy anymore. I love you, mercy is yours. You’re not broken anymore, you’re not captive anymore. I love you, mercy is yours.

Can you believe that this is true. Grace abundant I am giving you. It’s cleansing deeper than you know. All was paid for long ago.

You’re not guilty anymore. You’re not filthy anymore. I love you, mercy is yours. You’re not broken anymore, you’re not captive anymore. I love you, mercy is yours.

There is now therefore no condemnation for those who are in Jesus. You’re not guilty anymore. You’re not filthy anymore. I love you, mercy is yours. You’re not broken anymore, you’re not captive anymore. I love you, mercy is yours.

You are spotless. You are holy. You are faultless. You are whole. You are righteous. You are blameless. You are pardoned. You are MINE! You’re not guilty anymore. You’re not filthy anymore. I love you, mercy is yours. You’re not broken anymore. You’re not captive any more. I love you, mercy is yours.”
