message of the film

If you are offered scholarships, promotions, or any good opportunities for that matter, don't take them because it will hurt your friends' and coworkers' feelings that didn't get offered them as well. Also, if your employers gives you a task to do that is different from what everyone else is doing, or you are invited to come hang out with higher-up work people that you need to impress to advance your career or get a scholarship, say "sorry I can't; I already told my friends I would go play baseball today." Overall, you should not act as an adult and professional at your summer job, because forbid you get opportunities that might hurt your friends' feelings. Always just do what everyone else is doing and blend in at work as much as possible, and if you get offered a promotion, say "no thanks; I'll keep my job working as a cook in the kitchen because my friends don't think it's fair." If you need a scholarship or are looking to advance your career, you should feel like a horrible person for not refusing the offer if 15 of your classmates weren't given the same opportunity. Pay 150,000 dollars to go to college instead of jumping through some hoops to get a scholarship, because it will hurt feelings and nobody will be your friend.

I think I agree you. I am kind of surprised that this film only has 4 stars on its IMDb page and not 8. I don't understand why it only has that many stars. When this film came on TV it was EXTREMELY popular. Can someone please explain to me the low rating with movie? I don't watch the movie anymore for nearly a decade but I'm just curious.
