Who else have this thought? (about the end of the movie) *spoiler

It would be way nicer if Yagami (Light's dad) were holding L instead of saluting him in that scene when his time was almost up.I mean, come on, it looked perfectly like a hugging and crying scene. I'm sure that even though L said coldly that he would like to be left alone, he actually wanted someone there. Doesn't Yagami feel that L SHOULD'VE been his son instead of Light? I think that he more or less must have that sort of thought. If I was him, I'd hold him and say something like "If there is really a next life, I do wish that you will be my son" you know, make it more dramatic. Or maybe I've seen too much dramas!!

reply

Well I havent seen the second movie yet, but that does sound like it would be a more fitting ending...

But, maybe in your subject, you should put "(*SPOILER* about the end of the movie)"... just to make it a little more clear, because that is a big spoiler lol

reply

I think you hit the nail on the head with the idea that L is the son that Yagami deserves but it would be out of both their characters to hug. That would seem so unrealistic and catered to make the audience choke on the sap from such a mushy, Hallmark-card scene. However, I found the salute to be BS! If he had just given L a concerned look, and then reluctantly walked out, that would have been better. Another thing, I wish the movie didn't have that "1 year later" thing at the end. I guess they couldn't just end it so suddenly. They had to have something to sort of tie everything up and put closure on the whole situation. On the other hand, I am glad that they didn't milk the whole 1 year later scene and make it too sombre and sad. And thank (death) god they didn't do something idiotic like show L or Light turn at the very end, to give that typically Hollywood unexpected twist that is soo overused and cliched.

That part with Light's father and L is okay. But the ending with Ryuk(the god of death)killing Light by writing Light's name sucks to the core. Light should have lived if Ryuk had listen to him to kill L so Lwould be defeated.

reply

Thats how it goes in the manga... Ryuk said at the beginning of the manga, that when Light dies, its going to be Ryuk that kills him.
He also said that he (Ryuk) is on no ones side, hes just there doing this to kill some boredom. His entertainment is watching Light try to outsmart L, so when Light couldnt, and It was obvious that he lost, Ryuk wrote his name down.

reply

If Ryuk kill L, he will die :)), a god of death can't save a person.

reply

Ryuk couldn't kill L, L was already going to die

reply

yay~i'd finally watched Desu Noto2 ^^
And i agree with you on that.
i was kinda hoping someone could be there for L when he died.Like hug him or say some comforting/touching words cos i really felt sorry for L when he said he has no parents.
And i hate it when Ryuk(sorry for any wrong spelling) wrote Light's name and killed him.
I don't like the ending tho i am happy that L won ^^

Eh? But i thght L was averse to touch???

But u are right. If I were that old bag I would still grope, ummm.... I mean hug him. I mean it's NOW OR NEVER. Thats my last chance to know how L would feel like MAN! (dont u ladies agree? hehehe)

Yeh but he definitely deserved better than that crappy ending (IMO)

A better ending would be for Light to live a happy life with Misa....I was really angered by the ending too...I love Light so much and his evil mind...fits me perfectly.

how many of you here are asians?

You need to realise there is very different how Asian and Western film portray their story. Usually asian film focus more on the stuff unsaid, on the other hand western film tend to explain everything logically to it, making it flow in the most natural way. Depend on what you are looking for in a film, to me I prefer the Asian way. ^^

And that is why Yagami Souichiro did not hug or comfort L in the end, but he gave him a salute, which is much more amazing and touching!! If he went forward to hug him or tell him 'i hope you can be my son the next life' it will spoil the whole movie because the focus is about how each individual of us feel regarding justice after watching this movie (this is the message the movie is conveying as said by both Tatsuya Fujiwara and Kenichi Matsuyama themselves).

As i have said, Asians tend to keep their words inside of them instead of saying them out or doing it especially to people who are not our family members or relatives. The salute in that scene had spoken a thousand words, did you hear them?

when i finished watching death note 2 .... , one word pop up in my mind ..
this movie's so "ironic" ....
n i support L so i like the ending ... not happy but not sad either.
first i thought light would win ,but unfortunately misa forgot L's name
thar's one clue, i still have a hope that L will win
n i really don't like raito/light/ kira ,the movie has proved that light's really evil, he even want to kill his father , that's crazy ... how could he would have lived happily ever after???, if he had killed his father...althought his father's so nice to him n always believe him .

oh yeah i haven't read the manga .. but now i really desperately want to read .
n compare both manga n movie , who's the best ?

reply

Im not asian, but I prefer how asian movies tell a story... I feel like Im losing brain cells watching most western movies because they have to explain everything and you dont need to think about anything...

Maaaaaan, I want to see the second movie!! ;_;

The salute is fine for me.

it looked perfectly like a hugging and crying scene

C'mon, he is a cop. A man who is supposed to be strong and fight criminals, he can not show himself in such a "soft" way like that.
Doesn't Yagami feel that L SHOULD'VE been his son instead of Light?

Light is still his son anyway, even if he is one of the bad*sses that he killed. The love of a father for a son cannot be "transfered" like that :P .
If I was him, I'd hold him and say something like "If there is really a next life, I do wish that you will be my son" you know, make it more dramatic

L said: " I do not have a father" that means L consider Yagami as his father and yagami accepted it(with silence).Yagami looked like he wanted to cry after he left the room. But ... he is a cop, he must keep his emotion inside. This scene is indeed very dramatic for me.
Please remeber that L also used the deathNote, there's no next life for him, his soul will just disappear. That's why Yagami saluted him and walked away. Again, i have to say it's cops' style. L's words became short of "command" to him. He showed respect and love in his action. Somehow, I feel it is the best way to end that scene.

This is scene almost made me cry( Million Dollar baby is still the only one did it)

PS: I salute the japanese for such a good movie/manga :P

L died happily eating a chocolate bar to the very end, a picture of Watari next to him. Thats how it should be in the movie and that is how it will stay.

reply

I don't understand why Light's father should have hugged him, it would have been meaningless to L. He was adverse to touching people, he had little emotional connection, and he already lost a father figure in Watari.

As for the ending, I thought it was perfect. I had assumed that it was going to go down like the anime and Light was going to win and end up killing his family just so people would rally around him against Kira. So when L came walking down the stairs, I nearly faceplanted out of my chair. And that he had to kill himself in order to expose Light was just too awesome for his character.

I would have to say, for the story I prefer the movie over the anime. The manga goes on for a little too long for my taste.

reply

L didn't really die happily. He died alone, wishing Watari was at least with him (hence the picture) but he bravely rejected anyone to be with him in the last hours.

In 'Change the worLd' he even says to Near that he doesn't want to die. It's tragic that not only he didn't want to die, but that he'll probably be sentenced to oblivion like Light.
