How is this Legal?

How is this blatant ripoff possible?
I mean I see real actors with real talent...Lance Henriksen, "Millenium"
He carried an entire show, and very well done. No purse mouthed red head to bounce jokes off either.

I wouldn't do the original movie the disservice of renting this even to burn an illegal copy.

I won't lie and say it was terible as I haven't seen it. I got burned once with "War of the Worlds," the Speilberg version was on DVD release and I rented the DVD without looking at the box...SUPRISE!!!. C Thomas Howell, Soul Man!!! 'Put some mo' heroin on my hypodermic needle bitch...WHAT YOU LOOKIN AT!?'

Sadly this is legal, as the story itself is quite different from the actual Da Vinci Code. It's just the basis of it similiar, like going to different places to discover a treasure. The only difference is this is complete crap and Code isn't.

Just wait until "Snakes on a Train" comes out Aug. 15th!

I was thumbing through my copy of the latest Fangoria when I noticed an advertisment for "Snakes on a Train." All I can say is, WHAT? I realize it's different stories, but COME ON, SNAKES ON A TRAIN? It's not even on IMDB that's how god-awful it must be...

The only way these guys can make a buck is by ripping off big blockbuster!

King of the Lost World - King Kong
Pirates of Treasure Island - Pirates of the Caribbean
Exorcism of Gail Bowers - Exorcism of Emily Rose
Snakes on a Train - Snakes on a plane
9/11 Commission report - World Trade Center
When a Killer Calls – When a Stranger Calls

Its doesn’t take creativity or skill to make a rip off or copy of the big blockbusters, all they want to do is make a quick buck. They’re not in the business for the art or the story telling just the money. What a bunch of Bastards!!!

The are better versions on angryalien.com and much shorter). The Asylum is an appropriate name for the company that makes these cash in cheese films. Only a LUNATIC would want to make and distribute these films. Surprised Uwe Boll isn't the founder of the company, (or is he????????).

I'm right, you're wrong, deal with it or kill yourself.

Well, just so we're playing on the same field...you should know that The Asylum has released over 200 movies, and has produced over 30. Seven of which are 'tie-ins'.

We started with arthouse titles (which, though winning huge awards and critical acclaim, failed to rent any copies)...then went to genre films...which did well, then many genre films...which did consistantly OK,; then, with the success of H.G. WELLS' WAR OF THE WORLDS did amazingly well.

We love movies, and have a passion for them. We also love to make a movie that has an audience. The mere fact that more people rent the studio tie-in films than our other titles is a reflection of the marketplace. If the audience wanted the other films, we'd be making them.

And don't get so bent out of shape with us over the studios. The studios only invest in films that they know can make money -- it's how they survive. The only difference between us and them is that we actually use our own money to make our films and they use someone elses money (stock holders).

The Asylum, with its very aggressive slate, also is the only studio out there willing to hire first timers and give them a chance and an education. This is exactly the company I wanted to work for when I left college.

Look, hate our films...fine...hate our agenda...fine...I'm not here to talk you into something that you clearly do not like...but know that we are passionate filmmakers and that we love what we do. We are independent, we are produce a lot of films, we get an audience, and we get well reviewed --sometimes even better reviews than our tie-ins (regardless of what you think).

The Asylum is the most underated company on the market. They have released so many amazing films, being an independent filmmaker myself I highly respect everyone expecially L Scott and Dereck (gotta love fellow jersey boys) this is true what director dave said I asked Leigh about getting a gig as like a gofer and he told me when I move up to LA next summer I can work for him, I dont care what I do but I am so honored that Ive been given this chance, Ive been laughed at by so many production companys its not even funny. Thank god for the world of myspace! lol.

Keep it up Asylum! Draculas Curse is already a classic in my book, I dug Snakes on a train and Leighs 911 film looks amazing. Not to mention everyone who works for the asylum are total good hearted individuals the gals and the dudes.

I salute you Asylum for keeping it real, it just pisses me off my local blockbuster wont order films anymore causing me to barter with the gal who Im friends with. lol. But I rather order directly so the Asylum makes some profit out of the sales.:)

aahh tie-in eh. So thats the word you use when you make a movie thats already been made?

Sounds more like a cover band to me. Losers that are good with instruments but dont have enough talent to write thier own music, so they play someone elses and call it a tribute.

But tie-in.. i like that, its orgional, unlike this flick.

It sure is odd that all of the threads on this movie and it's company are totally against it and then all of a sudden someone makes a positive comment and then every other comment after it is also positive. My guess is that someone at "The Asylum" (god what a lame name) has started posting positive and totally bogus reviews of itself.

Any studio or company that had any sort of validity or success wouldn't be on IMDB hyping itself or defending it's crappy movies. They'd be out making real movies and smiling at all the blockbusters and awards it's made.

reply

Oh come on. Gail Bowers? Snakes on a Train? Anything Leigh Scott has ever put out under your studio name (has he put out anything outside of Asylum, anyways...)? H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds? All your other "tie-ins"? These are terrible, terrible films. Very poorly put together, with no imagination. I don't mind you guys putting them out. I don't care. If they make you guys money, good for you guys. You're in business, and this is the product you sell.

But, filmmakers? These aren't films. Calling yourself filmmakers implies art. There is no art in these "tie-ins". There's no heart. Just capitalism.

And, you know, some of these films you make "tie-ins" of do suck. And they do deserve bad reviews. But they are still all miles ahead of any of these "tie-ins" you guys put out. Miles.

This is not a comment about any "arthouse" film your company may have put out, or any other film put out by your company (excepting Leigh Scott's films, which are always cheap imitations of Uwe Boll), but solely on your "tie-ins". I can't comment on anything else because I don't know what they are. But the "tie-ins" are garbage, whether they make you money or not.

You're taking movies way too seriously.

reply

The worst thing is the claim that they love movies.

I agree with you. I don't give a *beep* if they make these movies. I don't watch them. But to pretend to love something that you completely desecrate is *beep* offensive.

It's like telling someone you love them while *beep* on their face.
