i have a complete fetish for the cheese, horribly acted, straight-to-video movies. so far, i've seen SICK, Mr. Jingles, Ice Queen, Motor Home Massacre (MHM, definitly my favorite movie ever), and Jack Frost. i would be very grateful if someone could give me a few suggestions for movies to make me laugh. nothing is better than a bad horror movie ;-).
Oh man, have I got a top ten list for you! Now, bear in mind that some these movies are extremely difficult to find and obtain (many have never gotten a DVD release and probably never will, and the VHS versions are often long out of print) but if you can find any of these, you will absolutely love them. They are:
1. Splatter Farm (1987) 2. Truth or Dare? A Critical Madness (1986) 3. Horror House on Highway Five (1985) 4. 555 (1988) 5. Houseboat Horror (1989) 6. Blood Cult (1985) 7. Blood Freak (1972) 8. Criminally Insane (1975) and its numerous sequels 9. Invasion for Flesh and Blood (1994) 10. Nail Gun Massacre (1985)
The only movies on this list that had theatrical screenings were Blood Freak and Criminally Insane -- but that's only because home video wasn't around yet. Another one you should check out is a Hong Kong action flick called The Story of Ricky (1991). It's not exactly horror, but it's still right up your alley.
I recommend "Sleepaway Camp." It's campy, funny, and actually really scary at times! (especially the end.)
I agree, and I consider the ending of "Sleepaway Camp" to be one of the scariest movie endings of all time. I'll never forget the first time I saw it.

What about all the trash Troma has put out? Toxic Avenger, Class of Nuke em High, Monster in the Closet, etc.? Or are these movies considered too "high quality" for this discussion? :)
Well if you like stuff REALLY cheesy and stuff.. rent Bloodthirst: Legend of the Chupacabra. That movie is lower quality than any of those, but hilariously bad.
You've obviously never seen any of the aforementioned movies. "Bloodthirst" is indeed a cheesy low-budgeter, but it's not even in the same ballpark as "Splatter Farm" or "555".

I had the displeasure of seeing a film called AFRAID OF THE DARK. it was recommended on Netflix's lists. Linda Purl has a co starring role. it was the most boring, slow moving, non-scary, laugh fest I have ever seen. the stars of the movie hide under blankets when the monster comes!!!! hahahahaha
also, saw a film called VIDEO VIOLENCE the other day. Matt, you have got to come and get this winner!!! it is from the mid 80's. it is recorded on VHS... yes... VHS!!!!! the sound, picture, acting, effects, etc. all are on a level not seen since SPLATTER FARM!!!!! call me, buddy.
Hey there D-Man!
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who hated "Afraid of the Dark". I thought it was unwatchably bad, and as you know, I am a very, very tolerant viewer. I thought maybe I was missing something, because all the reviews I have read after seeing it were favorable! I don't know, I just couldn't get into it. Dreadfully boring stuff.
As for "Video Violence", I am a long-time fan of that flick! I have corresponded with the director Gary Cohen through e-mail several years back, and he was very friendly and amused at my devotion to the movie. I am one of the lucky (?) few who have the original big-box VHS release from Camp Video, with the awesome cover art of a bloody gloved hand pulling a tape from the VCR. Campy indeed! Apparently there was a sequel, but I have searched high and low for it and cannot find it anywhere. Anyone out there have any ideas on where to find it? Anyway, I'm so glad you saw this movie -- and I can't believe it never came up in one of our many lengthy discussions of bad straight-to-video movies! You gotta admit though, Video Violence had a really clever premise, despite its amateurish execution. I thought the last shot was actually quite haunting and clever ("Under new management").
Oh, and did I ever tell you that Heather bought me Peter Rottentail for Christmas last year? I know how much you loved that movie. ;)
Take care, dude! See you at "Halloween"!

Hands down a movie called Demons At The Door. Me and my roomates love cheesy horror movies, and this one changed my life. Seriously, I saw it two years ago and nothing has even come close. S.I.C.K. was my favorite, but I can't even begin to explain to you how funny DATD is. It is INSANE. Speaking of which, and if this gives any indication as to the quality of the film, it has really big on the front "Featuring music by the Insane Clown Posse." If you ever find it, just buy it if you can. I swear to you, if you like so bad they're good horror movies, this will make your year.
Thanks for the recommendation! Surprisingly, I haven't heard of this one. But I'm always on a quest to see the worst of the worst. Something tells me I'll be pleasantly surprised.
And speaking of the Insane Clown Posse, I remember watching an embarassingly idiotic short film they made about cutting off people's heads... I had totally forgotten about it until now. I believe it was called "Bowling Balls". Have you seen that?
No, but I can imagine what it would be like. Let me know if you ever see Demons at the Door. They had it at the Blockbuster in Bowling Green, Ohio when I lived there, so I would imagine a lot of Blockbusters carry it. How could I get to see "Bowling Balls"?
Ok bad movies with tons of laughs. Redneck Zombies, Snakes on a Train, Fear of Clowns, Shakma(If you like bad movies and love to laugh I urge you to find this masterpiece), The Devils Child:666, Cannibal Hookers, Shadow Warriors(not the one with Hulk Hogan although its funny also). If you like bad action, Anything with Billy Blanks, Roddy Piper or New Steven Seagal. Theres a *beep* ton more, but this is enough.
My brother got Video Violence at a library sale (if you can believe that). VHS, big box... he got it for 50 cents!!!
What an amazing find! I need to know which library was stocking this movie! I'm drooling over the thought of all the bizarre, out-of-this-world books they must have too.

I just had the misfortune of watching a turgid piece of crap called "An American Haunting". Yes, the one with Sutherland and Spacek.
LOL...This thread has introduced me to so many movies I need to see! Anything that you describe as a "turgid piece of crap" must belong in my library. The crappier the better! I want to own the worst of the worst. I want people's eyeballs to melt just from looking at my collection.
