Normally the MythBusters would hide behind a bulletproof glass panel when they fire a weapon. Mack and Co. simply stand outside of the blast radius (as with the grenade DragonSkin test and the IED disabling test)...haha now that's pretty badass!

the mythbusters arent military so for them they dont know what the possible outcomes are of some of their 'experiments' mack usually fires in closely monitored military supervised settings and knows whats dangerous or not.
but i bet if he ever throws a grenade with a defective fuse, ot fires a new rifle that has a hidden barrel weakness that causes it to explode prematurely - guarantee you wont be seeing it - and he does wear flak vests sometimes with safety glasses
it's not a matter of being such a badass, it's a mtter of being smart - so relax!

Those are two completely different formats, on two completely different topics. Doesn't compare.
As for badass-ness, I'm sure Richard Machowicz was and still is a highly competent SEAL operator and apparently is quite a good martial artist as well. But he's a lousy presenter who plays up the material too much. That gay whisper thing is overused and flogged to death.
His SEAL credentials do not automatically translate to excellent acting and communications skills.

Mythbusters pretty much use the polycarbonate shields because they don't know what the heck is going to happen -- they're initiating dangerous experiments that have never been done before, so they take every precaution.
Futureweapons deals with weapons systems and explosives that have been tested inside and out, thousands of times. So they have an idea when to take precautions and to what extent.
So you can't really compare them (it's not like the Mythbusters get behind shields when using a gun in its conventional method on a range).
