Good show, terrible host.

Good show, terrible host. Way too dramatic in totally unnecessary times. Over emphasises ridiculous things. Watching this guy makes me think of characters you see in old Nam movies. He should be in some shack killing animals and smearing their blood on his face; not a host of a TV show on Discovery.

reply

I agree that he is a little over dramatic, but I don't mind him that much.

Dude I don't know about you, but having a hardcore host like that totally kicks ass.

He's cheesy, the show is hard to watch with him being over the top with the dramatics. I didn't like him too much in season 1, but he was better then, than he is now.

Yeah, you might think he is "cheesy," but anybody who is/was a Navy SEAL is just badass to me. And also, I just know that if people handed me some of the things that they give him to play with, Id probably freak out like a fat kid in a candy shop. I just watched the one episode of Future Weapons where he gets to shoot that automatic shotgun, the AA-12 (I think it was called). Now, Im just like any other guy and enjoy blowing things up and shooting off guns, but Ive never been a gun enthusiest. Ive never gone hunting and have only been shooting a few times. But when I saw him shooting off that shotgun, I was on the edge of my seat! I want one so bad now! So, he might seem cheesy to you, but my point is that if I was handed that gun Id be even more "cheesy" than him! And I dare to guess that you just might too.

reply

My kid loves the show. I watch it with him, but not because the subject interests me. Mack is a cutie.

reply

wow, way to really have an interest in sweet military weapons...

I think that Mac can be a little cheesy/dramatic, but the overall content of the show makes up for it. (along with the cool scores they play)

What are you rebelling against?

Whatcha got?

reply

I think the dude is pretty cool. What do you want a classically trained actor up there? The dude is an expert at what he does, I'm sure that's a big reason why he was picked. A little cheesy maybe, but they don't want to hire a bumbling idiot to handle some really powerful weapons. I suppose you'd rather see Patrick Stewart. LOL

reply

Come to think of it, him and Patrick Stewart would be scalp doubles.

It would be kind of cool if we saw Patrick Stewart blast the hell out of some target though, haha!

reply

How about having Mike Rowe as a host?

reply

Dude Mack and Mike would be the best co-host team since Phil Hendrie and Bud Dickman!

reply

HAHA, True, in Star Trek First Contact, he shoots those Borg on the holodeck with the Tompson sub machine gun, that was bad ass.

Normally I'd be pissed off at this comment but you said it so humorously I pissed myself laughing instead, haha!

reply

Hell yeah, true! He totally gets a hardon when he shoots guns and blows stuff up. I think I would too though.

reply

Actually, you have to admit, if the CheyTac Intervention System suddenly turned into a real live chick, she'd make a priest throw a brick through a stained-glass window...

reply

I forget what weapon it was, some new sub machine gun with 5.56 rounds, and it was on three shot burst fire, he went through the clip and annihilated the target, it just looked insanely bad ass.

I think killing people really sucks, and war sucks, but weapons are soooooo cool.

reply

I don't care if he is a SEAL ... he's a total dork.

reply

What's up with everyone bagging on the poor fellow? I think he does a commendable job.

reply

"I don't care if he is a SEAL ... he's a total dork."

Ok, a dork that can probably rip your throat out with his bare hands LOL. I bet you'd get nervous in front of the weapons he plays with and diarrhea sh!t in your pants. Who gives a sh!t how cool or dorky he is, I don't see what's so hard to tolerate about him. Just shut the fock up and check out the cool weapons and technology, or don't watch the show you damn prissies.

No respect, sorry that he doesn't sound like Michael Ironside. Woah, he would be cool as hell as the host of that show.

reply

Haha, hear, hear!

reply

This guy is a tool, i cant stand watching the show. Citizens_Auxilary_Police- Of course a cop wannabe would think this guys is cool. you are a dork

reply

LOL I got this name from the Phil Hendrie Show. Look up "Jay Santos" or "Major Elvis Newton" on Google, or better yet, go to www.philhendrieshow.com and you'll see what I'm talking about. Way to attack my name...

reply

I said it in another thread, and am repeating it here...

Mack is to hosting what David Caruso is to acting. He is overly dramatic and uses the Clint Eastwood "menacing whisper" much too often. Slap some red hair and sunglasses on him and have him stand with his hands on his hips and Mack and Caruso would be interchangable.

What could it possibly hurt if he acted less like an ultra macho tough guy and more like a normal person?

MMMMM, donuts!

reply

I think he is very unprofessional, and for a Navy Seal, he's very hard to take seriously. When I first saw this show, I was expecting to hear some serious technical specs for the equipment shown, but with him as host, no matter what the weapon is, everything just boils down to how much sh!t it can blow up.

Words are far more potent when uttered scarcely -myself

I think hes a good host, hes not annoying like Danny Forester, and what other person could host a show like this? Mike Rowe? (I have nothing against Mike Rowe, its Just not his gig. I love Dirty Jobs)

reply

He reminds me of a demented Steve Jobs unveiling a new product. They both go "this thing is absolutely STUNNING" and stuff like that...

reply

I agree with the David Caruso comment, every other sentence this dude says is whispered. If he did it every once in a while it might have dramatic effect but he just does it waaaay to much.

Another thing that bugs me is that he reminds us he was a navy SEAL every five minutes: OKAY WE GET IT ALREADY.

They should get someone more relaxed and "cooler" to host the show.

reply

You are all (the anti Mack commenters that is) just a bunch of prissie nubcakes. I would rather have a guy like this narrating the show who has served his country at the elite military level (note: that doesnt include officers - generals etc as they are just military college ass kissers) than some Hollywood actor like Alec Baldwin

reply

He's ultra cheesy, but that's probably also what the producers of the show want.
This could have become one of my favorite shows if they had chosen to present it more matter-of-factly.
The current presentation is just childish and embarrassing.

reply

I disagree, he puts his experiance as an Ex-Navy Seal to good use .... not forgetting he's sexy as ... Hell!

Adam Garcia, Clive Owen, Scott Patterson, Angus Macfadyen, Mike Rowe & Damon Gameau R Babes!!!

reply

His experience as SEAL does gives him the background and knowledge to talk about the weapons, but his military career does not give him the skills to make a good host for this show.

He's hamming it up too much and its such terrible acting. That detracts from my enjoyment of the material he's presenting. A good host has to positively added a bit to the material, but not act it out like the set of a B movie.

It's not that I don't respect his SEAL experience but that has no bearing on why he's irritating to watch.

David Caruso - What better reason do you need to avoid CSI: Miami?
