Light at the end of the tunnel

Alright let me first begin by saying this is the best Australian film I have ever seen.

Now, I'm hoping I can get some discussion on the ending to this film.

SPOILERS

At the end when McGahan is looking up towards the helicopter and the light is shining down on him, did anyone else get the feeling that this was supposed to be like some sort of religious metaphor. The very last shot is very striking and you often see religious paintings with that same light spilling out of the sky towards the 'protagonist'. There is also the christmas theme and carols playing in the background. I came out of the cinema thinking he was portrayed as a Christ-like figure (he had earlier talked about his concept of heaven and hell). Any ideas would be appreciated.

On a side note I am not religious by any stretch but I did get this feeling nonetheless.

Yes it is, listen to the commentary on the film and they explain the ending, they mention they wanted to make a warped nativity scene, with the carols music, Christmas decorations etc etc
The baby Graham saves represents life & the light at the end was Graham accepting his death.

The DVD is $15 at JB HI FI 2 Disc collectors edition.

Got the DVD as a rental and viewed it tonight.

Absotively boss - the light at the end of the tunnel and also the rescued baby at Christmas.

The other thing my husband and I commented on was the fact that all the Christmas trees featured were fake.

And as both my husband and I have tinnitus - well the title wasn't wasted on us!

I'm waiting for this film to go on special at HMV or KMart haha!

I feel really sorry for you if you have tinnitus, is it as bad as they make it out in this film?

The bored, subdued cop is a Christ like figure? Nice try on the film makers' part I suppose but I'm not sold. It seems choices were made to include symbolic concepts and ideas but they weren't substantiated by a decent enough plot. There's a killer, a witness, some cops plus a few other randoms and all in all - these characters and the relatively unexplored journey they go on do not amount to, in my opinion, a clever or even very interesting film. It seems quite surface and lacking. It was engaging for the first half and then fell apart, becoming quite boring and slow only to end up in desperate need of a substantial point. I really didn't care about the characters in the end.

The actors were so much better than most Aussie actors on the small and big screen though, FOR ONCE. Great cinematography too.
