Seriously...this is a mess

Godfather 1 and 2 are amazing...but I think presenting them like this kind of ruins it. Now maybe some of the "episodic" feel is lost when you watch it in one huge go rather than a few parts like I'm sure it was shown on TV back in the '70s or '80s, but right now, I think a better plan for AMC would just be to show G1 and G2 (with the deleted scenes) than to just run this thing.

It's a fine introduction to the story, and I love the deleted scenes, but you are right that it loses a lot being spliced together in this way. Ideally, yes, i would love to have at least ONE version of the trilogy with all the deleted scenes restored and put in their proper place. I don't think there's one dleted scene that doesn't add to the quality of the film.

You think too much of me. I'm not that clever.

Godfather 1 is basically intact in this version - but Godfather 2 is totally different.

With the flashback structure gone - all the counterpoints between the two generations are lost.

Its still a fascinating story and the additional scenes sit well overall.

In a way the chronological narrative makes more sense, although you lose the contrast between young Vito's rise and Michael becoming a monster.

Its that man again!!

I wouldn't go far so as to call the Saga a mess, but yes, I too prefer the original movies without the out-take scenes.
