International release?

Anyone know anything about an international release? Specifically a UK release date.

reply

I've been awaiting a U.S. release date and haven't seen anything yet. I usually check with Netflix, who will put it in "save" mode until an actual release date, but even there they don't have anything for this film.
Nor do I see anything on amazon, either.

I wonder what the holdup is. I so much want to see this!

Seems like it would be easier to learn German and buy the DVD than it is to wait for an English language international release. Still waitin and hoping.

The German BLURAY is beautiful quality. I don't speak German. There are NO English subtitles. But I sat through the entire thing enthralled. I have been
an admirer of Heike for a long time she is superb.

UPDATE:

See POST below for English subtitles DVD R3

Go to YESASIA.COM and get the REGION 3 DVD there is also a BD but its mastering is suspect as it is 1080i and that often means some kind of conversion.
The HONG KONG DVD edition is in German with optional English and Chinese subtitle choices. It has a choice of AC3 and DTS tracks. I have the stunning quality German BD but it has no subtitles. So I have ordered the R3 DVD.

I can't thank you enough for pointing this website out to me. Ordered a copy and now can't wait for it to be delivered. I became a fan of Hildegard Knef by mistake when one of her songs was on the radio and I've already waited too long to see this film :-/ Thanks again for the info.

Actually if the DVD is anything to go by the BD maybe okay but I am happy with DVD. You are most welcome glad to help. Just one thing in the Far East it is normal to keep the English subtitles going even when English is spoken during a bilingual movie but if you want to rewatch a scene later you can always switch them off. For a DVD the sound is awesome. What a story I have been a Heike fan ever since she was a presenter on VIVA in the 90's.

Thank you SO much for this suggestion! They have free shipping for international buyers which is awesome. Plus, I'm from Australia which means it'll probably get to me fairly quick. My DVD player is region-free and can play NTSC as well as PAL. Yay! I'm buying it as we speak :) I thought I would never find it with English subs! I know a little German but not enough to get by watching a film in all German.

The PAL/NTSC is not an issue for you all PAL region players can do NTSC its the Region coding which in this case is R3 so your player will cover that. NTSC only players cannot do PAL but ALL PAL market players can do NTSC providing they are either ALL REGION or encoded to a region they can play. The quality of the Hong Kong disc is excellent especially if you view it component into projector, HDMI into PLASMA or LCD panel TV or S-video or RGB scart into a CRT.
Sound is awesome for a DVD gives some BDs a run for their money. Packaging is very nice too. Enjoy ! By the way the OST CD from Amazon.de is superb.

There is now a release available on amazon.uk. If you go to their website, they offer the dvd for sale and also give a link to another website where you can rent it if you choose. The price seems reasonable at roughly 8 British Sterling, so I may simply buy it, but now also wonder if it is heading for a U.S. release soon or making its way to Netflix or some other online rental.

The site for renting the DVD in the U.K. is called www.LoveFilm.com and it is an offshoot of Amazon.UK - a DVD streaming or mail rental, similar to Netflix in the U.S. I just checked and Amazon.com also does rentals here, but "Hilde" is not currently listed.

At least this is a step in the right direction........

You've done some bad things, sweetie.

reply

WRONG ! Those are German copies with NO subtitles.
Plus HONG KONG DVD is NTSC which means native speed no PAL speed-up
do you want Heike singing as Hilde 4% speeded up !

Thanks canadamelody, for your post. Very good biopic. Heike Matatsch has a great performance, and of course with a very handsome man 'standing by her side' (Dan Stevens). Why this film only gets 6.6 on IMDB is beyound me. Highly recommend.
