Bresson's Four Nights of a Dreamer

Has the director of "In the City of Sylvia" commented on the influence of Bresson's "Four Nights of a Dreamer"? It's quite obvious that Guerin's film is a remake of Bresson's, whole sequences, characters and shots lifted.

Bresson’s film was about an artist (who looks identical to the male lead in Guerin’s) who wonders about Paris, longingly observing its women. He eventually meets Marthe, an attractive woman who is gloomy because a lover of hers promised to meet her at a cafe, but never showed up. The artist and the woman spend some time together, share stories for 4 days, and then split.

Guerin’s film is identical in style and content (whole shots and sequences are lifted by Guerin), though it tells the tale from the perspective of the male lover who abandoned Bresson’s Marthe and then turns up six years later looking for some form of reconcilliation.

Has anyone seen both films or know of any comments Guerin may have made about Bresson? The similarities between both films are just too huge to be coincidental.

I just watched Quatre Nuits D'Un Rêveur for the first time, and I too noticed how strikingly similar the films were, although Sylvia lacks that G-dardian nouvelle wave feel that undulated through Quatre.

Guerin personally knew Bresson, and according to a few articles on the Senses of Cinema website, several of Guerin's earlier works also pay homage to Bresson, in addition to Philippe Garrel and Raúl Ruiz, so I'd say yes, Guerin was definitely influenced by Quatre Nuits.
