Missed first 10 minutes - please help!

Went to see this last night but missed the first 10 minutes or so. Would be grateful if someone could describe what happened in those opening scenes of the film. thanks.

Young guy contemplates then writes in his pad after spending his first night at a hotel and then heads off to a cafe.

Wait a minute - I think I've just described the first hour of the film!

PRETTY MUCH NOTHING HAPPENS IN THE ENTIRE FILM--just a guy drinking beer & girl watching! Then he follows this girl all over town!!

I will tell you that you missed atleast one insanely gorgeous girl sitting at a café :-)
