I just watched it, in a word, SCARY.

Any inkling of doubt was removed after watching this. I cannot believe this *beep*

It's nobody's business but ours.

Even though you are a CHOKE ME fan, and have to endure supporting a team that just spent 1.2 billion dollars in 5 years to LOSE EVERY YEAR THIS CENTURY, I must agree with your comments
:)

I agree. What is revealed in this documentary is horrifying. Political affiliations aside, this should concern the hell out of anyone who votes. Sadly, we are coming up on the fourth national election since some of these problems were first revealed and the process is still flawed.

reply

"Still flawed" is a gross understatement. It's even more flawed, and getting worse. Take a look at the "Help America Vote Act". They're giving billions of dollars to states and counties to install paperless voting machines all across your country.

Companies like ChoicePoint are scrubbing the voter rolls on an unprecedented scale.

You heard it here first: November 7th is going to be worse than every other election you've had this century. Republicans have never been so desperate. They need to retain control of both Houses to prevent investigations into the massive criminal activities they've been up to since 2000...

I predict that this election will be even uglier than 2000, but not because of the DemocRATS, because so many people will be prevented from voting that riots will break out.

Almost every other country on the planet has stood up against this in recent years. Why haven't you?

reply

Yes, "still flawed" IS a gross understatement. I agree with your post Tom, although it isn't clear to whom the "Why haven't you?" question was directed. You speak as though you are not from America, otherwise, you might have mentioned what you are doing to stand up against this corruption. If you assume that there isn't a tremendous fight going on in the U.S. to put an end to it, and that citizens are not standing up, you would be incorrect in that assumption.

reply

The "Why haven't you?" question was indeed directed at the American people as a whole.

I'm from Canada. We had a 100% paper ballot federal election in November 2000, while the U.S. was still counting votes. We counted all our votes within 4 hours of the polls closing. We've been using paper ballots since Confederation, and have no desire to change. There are a few corrupt municipal officials (mostly in Quebec, a VERY corrupt government) who've tried electronic voting, only to have it blow up in their face every time...

"If you assume that there isn't a tremendous fight going on in the U.S. to put an end to it, and that citizens are not standing up, you would be incorrect in that assumption."

From what I see, there are a few hundred people dedicating their lives to fixing the mess.
There are people who don't get to vote, either because of waiting lines being too long, or illegal disenfranchisements, voter roll scrubs, etc. Yet they do nothing but complain. In other countries, they riot until they either vote, or somebody goes to jail.
But I also see people like John Kerry concede within 4 hours of the election, ignoring mountains of evidence, and $75 million specifically donated and earmarked to fight election fraud. And I also see a media which has completely ignored this issue since 2000, and a vast ignorant populace that couldn't care one way or another. I see a posse of dispicable Republican bootlickers that seem to think that it's OK to steal elections as long as the GOP wins, and who call anybody who disagrees with election fraud "liberal whiners".

Believe it or not, I'm an optimist. I think that this HBO special is by far the highest profile this issue has had, and that it will have a big effect. I believe that eventually Americans will realize that they can't rely on "professionals" to fix this mess. The "professionals" prefer the status quo.

The only way for real change to occur is not just for the people to demand change, but to effect change yourselves. If you just demand change, the elite will ignore you. Recent elections in other countries have shown this.

Tom, I appreciate your comments and I agree with your second post. I also believe paper voting is the only way to go.

It is true that there are not nearly enough people involved in trying to change our voting process. Those who are involved are called conspiracy theorists. I believe most U.S. citizens are either unaware, or they just flatly refuse to believe that we even have such problems with our process because they are in denial. John Kerry conceding and kissing goodbye his chance to expose fraud, our pathetic media, an ignorant public...all very sad and very true. Just to get news coverage that isn't slanted to one side or the other would be a welcome relief for us.

It isn't hard for me to believe you are an optimist. I hope the HBO special brings awareness. It should be broadcast on every station, over and over again, like a cold shower for our public. I also wonder how it would be recieved if it had been made by Republicans. Our country is in denial over more than just our election process, but that's another post.

4 Hours!?! Really? Maybe we (the US) needs to hire your ballot counters. Which almost has some rational to it since they would have no stake in who wins.

Out of curiousity, does Canada have the huge network TV coverage that happens in the US? I think '84 is the last time I watched any election coverage. To me, there's no point. My watching will not change the results. My voting can. I personally feel that there should be NO coverage until the ballots close in Hawaii. My point is, how much does that drive the need for fast election results? How much money do sponsers pay for election night commercial spots?

Well, the election is over, and I'm VERY glad I was wrong...
