I don't know what to make of Todd Solondz

I have seen every one of his films except "Storytelling," which is on my list of films to see. I have no idea why I keep coming back. His movies are unique viewing experiences for me. I certainly don't feel happy after I see them, nor do I feel as if I have learned anything about the human condition. I don't think his movies have a message which is usually an important feature for a movie to have when it doesn't make you feel good or entertain you.

I am not complaining, just observing.

I think his films make you ask questions of yourself. But that doesn't mean you'll ever come up with any real answers.

Yeah, sometimes you end up seeing some of yourself in one of his characters and the effect is sickening and horrifying. I don't know why I keep subjecting myself to it, but I can't stop.

reply

Well, so far I haven't horrified myself. But I sure do get stuck thinking about some uncomfortable stuff after watching a Solondz film.

He adopts a "warts and all" attitude towards filming American families.

reply

he goes to the dark side of suburban life. i applaud him. it sure would be easier to take if it didn't ring so true :\

reply

Almost all his films include pedophiles. Makes you wonder what demons he's dealing with.

reply

Just as long as he works them out on film and not in real life.

reply

yes I was somewhat concerned
