Honestly the worst film I have ever seen

I just saw this at the Toronto Film Festival, I was so so excited to go and see it and it really sucked. I was falling asleep it was so bad. Started out well enough but went downhill. The plot was poor, the acting was poor. Very disappointing.

Why were you excited to see it?

The premise of the movie sounded really interesting and I love Allison Janney normally lol

Not a Solondz fan, then, eh? I think this movie will probably be just as devisive as the others he's done. I'm not a fan myself, it's mainly the cast I'm interested in. I'm very curious to see how I'll react to it once I get to see it, whenever that turns out to be.

I must say that all this is not very instructive. Whatever you think of the movie, you write for people who have not yet seen it. So, would you mind telling us more about it? And especially about Ciaran Hinds' part if it does not bother you to much. Thanks in advance.

reply

That is very true, my apologies and I will try to expand on my thoughts without ruining the plotline for anyone.

Mostly I just didn't feel any connection to any of the characters. The dialogue was very stilted and I couldn't work out if it was due to bad dialogue or bad acting. Any of the characters could have dropped down dead and I would have felt no sadness for them at all. Timmy's character being the least convincing. A lot of it felt like it was just trying way too hard to be 'edgy' and ended up seeming forced.

As I said before the first few scenes in the movie were good. They were funny and interesting and I thought it would be good. Then it just wasn't. I'm not someone who has to be spoon fed a story or who needs everything explained to them. I can watch a movie and enjoy it for what it is and enjoy discussing it afterwards but I found after this film I struggled to even describe it to anyone. It made little sense and none of the characters were compelling, the whole thing just felt really flat.

Interesting premise, poorly executed I felt.

Ciaran Hinds' role in the movie actually was interesting, I felt like I wanted to know a bit more about this man and what had happened previously but they took it no where and gave him nothing and so like the rest of the movie it felt flat.

Many thanks.

If no one said this, it wouldn't be a Solondz movie. He's one of the most polarizing figures in movies. Humor is very personal, and either you get his or you don't.

reply

This is a sequel to Happiness so if you didn't see that then you probably missed out on this inside jokes and the connections to the first film.

Every single movie on imdb has a "worst movie ever" thread.

*yawn*

reply

LOL! Yep, and every TV show and every actor/actress/director...

I saw this at the Toronto Film Fest and loved it. Happiness is my fave from the director and this was actually a better film. Fans of the director will get this but as you can see it's not for everyone.

BRAVO ! Any thread that starts with "Worst Film Ever", "Boring" or "There's 90 minutes of my life I'll never get back" should be immediately DELETED.

Honestly, If this is the WORST film this sub-mental fool has ever seen then he or she hasn't seen very many films.

I've seen Happiness. I got all the inside jokes and connections but this movie was still awful.

reply

You haven't seen The Girlfriend Experience, or The Passion of the Christ. These are two that come to mind as *worst* films. This is a great film.

reply

'The Girlfriend Experience'! What I wouldn't pay for an Eternal Sunshine memory whip of that experience!

How come everytime someone doesn't like a film they write a post saying it's "the worst film ever made/I have ever seen"?? is it really the worst film you've ever seen? with all the CRAP that comes out every year, all the awful Hanna Montana movies, Hollywood Chihuahua or whatever it's called?
come on!

As Claude Dancer said to Paul Biegler (In Anatomy of a Murder) "you haven't lived".

Come and get one in the yarbles, if ya have any yarbles...

If you think this is the worst movie ever then you haven't seen that many movies. I can name at least a dozen class B films that are far worse than LDW. Overall, I thought it was a solid movie, it's not exactly great or anything but a solid film for sure. It had some funny moments but I think the problem is that they tried too hard to make this movie as dramatic as possible and it just got a little tiresome about half-way through. I'd give it about 6.5 out of 10.

i would have liked this a lot more if they had used the original cast. i thought ally sheedy in particular was extremely awful. she was trying way too hard to be selma blair playing her character and failing miserably. the dad did a much better job cause he was playing the character the way he wanted to play it, not the way the previous actor played it. i really hate when a movie recasts a role or cuts a character altogether.

reply

I didn't hate this film, but I was disappointed. Except for Bill and Billy, the returning characters were a lot more cartoonish than I remembered them being in "Happiness."

reply

I was excited to see it, too, because I loved Happiness. LOVE the movie! This release was so disappointing. Perhaps one of the major disappointments in my movie watching experience. I second all the points you made.
