Did anyone else notice the guy staring at the painting?

Not Chiaki. There was a black haired guy that looked like Chiaki and he was standing in front of the area where the painting was supposed to be. Was this the person Aunt Witch was waiting for?

Captain Dudley Smith: Have you a valediction, boyo?
Jack Vincennes: [gasping out]... Rollo Tomasi.

Maybe it was him but the shadows made his hair look dark.It was a pretty dark place there.

Oh my gosh that was my first thought too!! You could be right!!

Yes, & by that point during Auntie Witch`s exposition there was a definite hint of, "Hang on, could that be Chiaki? But why..?" in my mind.

It IS Chiaki. At about 1h9m in, he explains that the reason why he time travelled was because he wanted to see that painting(which had been destroyed by his time period).

Rudy, question.
Yeah?

But people in other threads are saying Chiaki never got to see it.

This is a movie about time travel. Whose to say he doesn't at some time in HIS future get another chance to time travel and finally see the painting. It's just too much of a coincidence that he says openly that he's fascinated with the painting and we also see this "ominous stranger" intently interested in the painting as well.

A nozh scrap any time you say.
