Phylicia Rashad

There is no way Phylicia Rashad is not going to win an Emmy.

I just saw her cry after diddy younger gave all their money away.

I felt the pain through the tv, terrific performance

reply

That was some damn good acting right there.

It was as sad as when "Good Times" when Florida grieved for James. Damn Damn DAMN!!!

I was thinking the same thing! She's suppose to be in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof when it opens on Broadway! I can't wait... She is a great actress and doesn't get the recognition that she deserves!

reply

What part? She's a bit too old to be Maggie the Cat. She's amazing and could have pulled it off "back in the day" but not so much now. And I can't imagine they'd waste her talent with some minor role.

reply

LOL! Rashad does not play Maggie! She plays Big Mama and let me just tell you ~ my husband & I watched it last week-end in NY and it was absolutely FANTASTIC!!! If you get a chance to buy tickets, don't miss it!

I was actually telling my husband last night that Terrence Howard (who plays Brick in the play) would have made a better Walter Lee Younger than Sean Combs.

reply

I saw this too - she was amazing. Terrence Howard would have been a better Walter, but he also could use some more theater training.

Agreed. I bet when Emmy nominations come out (ALL the way in July or August), Rashad, Lathan and McDonald will be nominees, just like at the Tonys. Maybe the guy who played Beneatha's African friend (completely forgot his name) will get a nom, too.

I would be shocked if she doesn't win an Emmy.

reply

Yes. It was sooo stupid 4 her 2 not win an Emmy 4 Claire on "Huxtables". She needs 2 def win 4 "Raisin".

I agree...Rashad MADE this production, and deserves an Emmy win for it.

Maybe it was just me, but I was more impressed by Audra...

And I don't think Sanaa's performance was anything special... I'm tired of seeing Sanaa in everything, and I definately think she was mis-cast in this.

Don;/t get me wrong...Audra McDonald was the best Ruth I have ever seen, even better than Ruby Dee. She brought so much more to Ruth than is in the script.

Audra McDonald was a great Ruth. She was the only actor that did this version justice.

I thought she was awesome in that scene where the white kid gave her the apples or tamatoes (don't recall) with worms. She told his ass off in teh most graceful and elegant way. It was great.
