I've never watched it in English, but I can tell you French is better because movies/TV Shows/Video Games are ALWAYS better in their original version.
shareof course they are but when asking questions like these it's always - was the dub produced with enough care and accuracy to watch. to which my answer is yes. Even Some of the voice actors from the French version were used.
shareI have only watched (or better said "listened") the french version, not only because french is my second language (after spanish) but also because I hate dubs that usually just ruin the movie experience.
I can make exceptions in movies aimed exclusively to kids, though.
Okay. I mean my exceptions extend as far as animated films (because of how the whole voice recording process works - that it's not too far removed from how it was originally performed in the first place). I've now seen both versions myself and though it can be argued that the French version is, of course, better I had a surprisingly easy experience watching the dub. Each to their own but I do think the English dub is pretty solid.

Yeah, I think it's good to realise that an animated feature of foreign origin, put through the process of translation, can turn out with better results [than a live action feature]. I mean simply from a technical stand point, the reason for this makes a lot of sense.

I watched all of the French one, and some of the English-dubbed version. I preferred the French(my French is decent if not perfect, so the subtitles help when I fall behind or miss something). Still, I REALLY appreciate that they took the trouble to get some good English voice talent, as well as having primary characters from the French version (primarily Deneuve as Marjane's mother, and Mastroianni as Marjane) reprising their roles in English. If Danielle Darrieux (who played the grandmother in the French version) had done the English grandmother too (I have to believe she speaks English), I'd have watched the whole English version, since those three are the vast majority of the voices.
Frankly, I'm not a snob against dubbing, if it's done well. I've seen some awful translations in subtitles, so that's hardly a perfect solution.
I'm againts dubbing. But being that it's a animation, it didn't bother me that much. I'd go for French for authenticity.

The dubbed version was the only one I could rent, and I live in Holland, where subs are the norm. mind-boggling mistake by the dutch distributer.
The voice acting was okay, not as horrible as it could have been. Iggy pop is surprisingly a good voiceactor.
To all those folks who complain about the American 'dub'; you realise that all cartoons are 'dubbed', don't you? That's sort of the point.
The American version is just as authentic as the French version. They're both following the same basic principle of voice actors recording dialogue over animated footage.
Several of my all-time favourite movies are subtitled foreign-language films. When it comes to live-action cinema, overdubbing is just silly and disrespectful. But with animation, it's a totally different story!
Why would anybody be pretentious enough to watch a subtitled animation when an dubbed version is available in their own language?
I watched most of it that way (subtitled, with French audio) simply because it is the default on the Blu-ray. The last fifteen minutes I watched in English after I noticed the option.
