Rating/parent guide
This film was suggested to me for a student viewing, but it's rated TV-MA. Can anyone tell me how "MA" it is? (Consider high school students watching it.)

It's been a while since i've seen this movie, but from what I can remember, there are no explicit scenes of drug use or sexuality. Mostly, i think the "MA" rating is based on themes that are for mature viewers. Those themes do surround drug use, sexuality & homosexuality. There are more nuanced themes, too, like serious family disfunction with real consequences, predatory behavior by an older adult, even physical abuse and death.
I don't really see it being a problem for a high school aged person to watch. This movie is more realistic when compared to mainstream movies out there -- because most high schoolers have seen sex, dysfuction, and drug use in movies, but those same movies never portrayed the other side of it all.
Hopefully you'll be able to watch and be moved by this movie like i was.
