More harm then good?

Over all the movie was pretty good.
It had a message and it allowed the viewer to get to see something they might not of know before.

However:

My feelings are that one of the mistakes was with Queen Latifah as the lead actress.
She did not portray the average person.
She came on too much like a actress trying to play a role.
It might of been better to of given the part to a lesser know actress.

Also they did not make clear enough about how to better educate the african american people. It seemed to me that all they did was promote condoms for continued uncontrollable wild loose sex and not enough on the practice of abstinence.

It's my feeling and opinion that this movie might do more harm then good, in that the message is not clear and strong enough about how death is the end result to all that learn not to love each other enough to prevent the spread of aids, by changing ones life style completely.

Thanks,

Mario

I show it more of "educate the people in the city" then "educate the african american people". Well, that's all I have to say.......

Queen Latifah did an excellent job in this movie, all of the actors in the movie did. I've come across some of the people in this film in my life.

The movie did educate people. Yes, abstinence is great, but lets be real...people are NOT going to abstain. So if they're not going to abstain they can at least protect themselve by using condoms and getting tested regularly.

Xamp, I respect your opinion, but as DM stated, people aren't gonna abstain, and it's terribly naive to think they are. What this woman is trying to do is to get people in the community to at least protect themselves and have knowledge of the consequences of not using condoms. She's a good person to do this, since she has first-hand experience.

I thought Queen Latifah's performance was over the top...and this is a minor quibble, but she never convinced me that she really needed that cane. If you watched closely, her walk did not appear to be impaired and when she moved the cane, it would barely touch the ground most of the time.

Abstinence has proven time and time again to be ineffective. So if you're worried about more people dying, keep on teaching abstinence only, watch more people die.

The movie was inspired by a true story. That woman is still handing out condoms on the street. Just sad all around.
