Melina

Can someone explain how Largo met Melina in the past? We see them in the film and in their conversation, they make a reference to their past after they acknowledge that they did not recognize each other. Was there a flashback scene somewhere I missed? Or is the very first time we're introduced to Melina in the film at about the hour mark?

Surprised no one responded in the past 2 years. I just watched it and thought the same. I actually went back and skimmed the movie up to the part where she takes care of Largo but there didn't seem to be any reference to her beforehand. Put this in the plot hole or lack of character development story. I'm guessing a scene was cut out that better explained the back story.

An actress is credited as playing "adolescent Melina", so I'm assuming that there was flashback scene featuring her and it got cut.

reply

You're probably right. Often times, when some character appeared to come out of nowhere, its likely a scene was cut. What I never understood was why they would keep the scene if it stands out or why they would cut the other scene if it was necessary to provide a background.

reply

Agreed, undoubtedly she was the cute neighbor girl that Largo grew up with in flashback scenes that were excised... this movie was so close to being really, really good, but I liked it anyway, despite the horrific cutting in the editor's room...

Right. Well, I have to-- I have to go now, Duane, because I, I'm due back on the planet Earth.

You guys have actually hit on the major problem I have with the film, which I admittedly still like.

A film such as this, which is really just an action film, doesn't really benefit from all these jumps and flash backs in time and geography.

I think the narrative and its sub - stories, such as Melina's, would have profited from a more traditional linear timeline approach to the story. Her character just emerges from nowhere. There definitely wasn't any adolescent Melina in the version I saw.

I really have no idea why the producers saw fit to introduce characters like the Butler and Miss Periwinkle into the story. They may have featured in the comic, but they virtually had nothing to do in the movie except clutter things up even more.🐭
