Paul Dano instead of Ryan Gosling

Story around the campfire goes that Paul Dano is being considered to play instead of Ryan Gosling.

Sadly enough, the same rumor suggests that Tom Waits has backed out as well due to scheduling conflicts...

It's quite unthinkable that Ryan Gosling is considered here in the same breath as Tom Waits after the emotional wankery of Notebook. That movie is kitschy, soulless Americana. Even though its not nearly as good as the novel, its rather unfortunate that a movie like A Very Long Engagement was shunned and Notebook and Atonement were lauded. I hope that you all realize Keira Knightley cannot act and Nicholas Sparks belongs in the pulp bins, which is where libraries put him as soon as his book is no longer new.

Why? Because, sadly, the few times that the "American soul" is stirred is when its able to sheepishly show itself through the lens of cinematic garbage that we're too weak to stand up to, like jackass "leaders" and cultural mammon. Gag me with a spoonful of formulaic trash.

Sure, Daniel-Day Lewis owned There Will Be Blood, but Dano nailed a solid performance there. Though I've heard good things about Lars, I'm sure there's a reason that Dano is holding it down here thus far. Please, ye who directed Noi, give us some emotional depth and reality, not trite portrayals of patriotism and immature, conceptually vacuous bs.

Thanks. Your Icelandic contribution could make me "proud to be American."
