*beep* Brian Cox!

What happened to Tom Waits? He was perfect for that role, now they got *beep* brian cox? how do you go from tom waits to brian cox, that's ridiculous!

reply

Brian Cox is a fantastic actor. I look forward to this.

reply

But you can't replace Tom Waits

reply

When Ryan Goshling dropped out so did Tom Waits.
Brian Cox is a fantastic actor and I think he will be great in this.

reply

Why?? cuz he's a good musician. Brian Cox is 1000 times the actor Waits is. They're acting not singing little pop songs, friend.

reply

you're a moron for thinking tom waits sings pop songs.

Tom Waits is a great singer (even though I won't buy one of his CDs), but not a great actor.

Brian Cox is a great actor.

Ryan Gosling is good, but, sorry, IMHO Paul Dano is 10 times better (that guy was on par with Daniel Day Lewis in There will be blood, now THAT was an huge challenge!).

Everything is fine.

P.S.: Isild le Besco is awesome.

Brian Cox is a great actor, he was the only good thing in the unredeeming x-men 2. Just watch Michael Mann's Manhunter and Spike Lee's 25th Hour. But since Cox already worked with Dano in L.I.E. and this film marks the American debut of Dagur Kári - of Noi fame, I would prefer an American in the role. Tom Waits seems like an actor fit for this role.

I actually thought the same when I heard Waits was replaced by Cox.
However, today I saw a rough cut of the film and I can honestly say that Brian Cox does an amazing job. Frankly I don´t think Tom Waits could have portrayed the character of Jacques with the same gusto as Cox does. And the same goes for Gossling and Dano.

Tom Waits is a good singer. My pal Bob is a good mechanic. Neither Tom nor Bob could lace Brian Cox's boots when it comes to acting.
Bob, however, is quite good at acting when it comes to quoting for work.

reply

yeah yeah yeah, I apprecciate Brian Cox, he is tremendous dont get me wrong, but Mr. Tom Waits can do anything he pleases. Like acting, and thats that

reply

yeah yeah yeah.
Tom Waits plays Tom Waits.
And that's fine for a director who wants that. But he's not versatile as an actor.
If a director wants a character to be other than Tom Waits, he must chose someone who is not Tom Waits.
Waits' music is fantastic. To suggest that he's also better than one of the U.K's most respected actors is just silly - Waits himself wold undoubtedly laugh in your face at such ridiculous, fan-boy nonsense.

Waits is good in small, eccentric cameo roles like Renfield in Coppola's Dracula or as the crippled beggar in The Fisher King, but he's not enough of an actor to carry an entire film in a lead role.

Brian Cox, in contrast, is a first-rate actor, and it was interesting to see him and Dano together again after their performances in L.I.E..

reply

*beep* you! I love Brian Cox. Definitely one of my favorite actors.

reply

Waits and Gosling would of been fantastic, I guess, but we'll never know. They pulled off and now it is Cox and Dano, a very different set of persons, both in style and substance, but great nontheless.
