what happened to tom waits?

Didn't like the film much and haven't heard about Waits+Gosling till I came to this board, but I can't imagine how different it would've been. Jeez.

I just watched it and tried to imagine it with Waits and Gosling. i would have loved Waits in that role

Would have been very interesting to see Tom Waits and Ryan Gosling in a film together. I feel like they could relate on some level for some reason.
