I love slasher films but...

Why do they always make characters do unbelievable things? For instance, in this movie they introduce a weapon.....(SPOILERS AHEAD).....they find a..........shot gun with one bullet. Our main character (at this point) is pointing the weapon DIRECTLY at the villain. He turns off the light, she doesn't fire. As if she would miss?! She's extremely close to him AND it's a shotgun. The projectile explodes differently from just a regular bullet. Meaning it wouldnt have mattered if he turned off the light at that distance. That kind of irked me...

And lastly....the kid who saves her throws the shotgun at the villain? Why not try and hit him with it? I never quite understood that. Certianly the man is bigger but human instinct would have kicked in and anyone of us would have held that weapon with two hands and swung at the guy as if it were a club of some kind. And it wasn't like he threw the weapon either...he tossed it! Eh...that whole sequence sort of ruined it for me. Not to mention the entire scene with Eirik when he was captured and acting all strange. "What's going on? I don't know what happened?" HOW CAN HE FORGET SEEING THAT GIRL DEAD?! lol

The movie was entertaining for the most part. But it utltimately fell into the same formulaic hole all of these slashers do.

Unless it was an extremely short barreled shotgun, at close range the spread of a shotgun is actually quite minor. At 10 feet with an average choke, it's something like an inch, barely wider than the shell itself.

Regardless though, she still should have fired: a chance of hitting him is better than none.
