The movie is junk, not worth watching. It takes a lame Mexican myth and tries to make a scary movie out of it. It fails. Not surprising since you can sum up the entire plot with, "Homicidal ghost who drowned son now forces women to drown their own children." And that's about as exciting as it gets. Seriously.

Superb cinematography, great actors and a well established ambiance mean nothing since there is no plot. Long, drawn out scenes build to a crescendo, over and over again, with absolutely no result. The formulaic slasher-flic scare mechanisms are predicatable and boring. Whoever wrote this sucked really, really bad at their job.

In a way, the dismal results are a shame since the female lead is especially pretty and talented--in fact she could be a star in her own right. Most of the other actors did a great job too--with what little they had to work with.

Yup! Well said and I agree with all of it..Plus one, the timing. A lot of the timing with dialague seemed out of step and MIGHT have been tweaked and thus helped along this fairly weak script. That's the director's role, and I'd think twice and/or watch the credits to see if he deserves any thing for what ARE some pretty nice compositions on screen with the camera. That might have been the director of photography's doing.

I have to agree with all the other comments at this site about the lack of quality of this film. I had SUCH high hopes for it, had tracked the director's website for months, and sent away for the DVD within a month of its release. I watched it tonight and almost turned it off within 15 minutes or less. I kept thinking it would get better, but it didn't. I think the problem was, as most have mentioned, the script and the editing. The actors were okay, and the camera direction wasn't bad. But important things were left unexplained (as other commenters have mentioned), and the editing called attention to itself as it tried too hard (and failed) to elicit audience emotions such as fear and suspense. I understand the director has a lot invested in this project emotionally, and I feel bad about being so critical, but The Cry just doesn't work, and I would not recommend this film.

One Word: SUCKED

I agree, I kept waiting to be terrified and was let down. I found certain aspects creepy, mothers killing children, etc. I will tell you what the stories my grandma and aunts told me are way more scary.

I'm not really that picky as far as movies go actually. As long as the writing does not appeal to the lowest common denominator I'll probably like any movie at least a little. I couldn't watch this one. It was awful. Plus, I had just had a baby so the idea of mothers murdering their children did not sit well with me. Personal issues aside it tried too hard to be scary and just needed to move along. But then, I only watched about 15 minutes of it.

This movie is horrible. This was one of two movies that I stopped watching within 15 minutes. I was just glad that it did not cost me any money to watch this cr@p.

I am all about the visuals but this is about all the film had to offer other than the music. Music soundtrack was excellent and I'd buy the music for sure.

The plot was incoherent, there were few visual or script cues to the passage of time or the direction of the narrative or anything really. Even the dialog seemed like it was in code.

I watched this because of Carmago, but what a waste of time.
