Clearing up confusion re: New World + Series 6

These are two separate things, folks!

Primeval: New World is a spinoff series (think Stargate: Atlantis or Torchwood as a spinoff of Doctor Who.) It will be set and filmed in Vancouver. It's a joint production with Canadian company Omni Film and Impossible Pictures (the original UK producers.) Scripts are written, and they're in pre-production, for a projected filming start date in March.

The series will be set in the same universe and timeline as the original, allowing for potential crossover episodes. There is one original series castmember on board for a cameo, though we don't know which one.

Series 6 of the original series is in the planning stages, but HAS NOT been greenlit by the people funding the production. Series 4 and 5 happened because of a joint funding agreement with ITV, Watch (a small UK pay channel), German channel ProSieben and BBC Worldwide, which does distribution of many shows (including non-BBC ones) to worldwide markets, including through BBC America.

Series 5 has not yet aired on ITV (free-to-air in the UK) due to this agreement; Watch funded it on the condition that they'd get to air series 5 first, which they did last May, and barred ITV from airing it before 2012. As yet, it's not on ITV's schedule. However, once it does air, that's when we'll have a better idea of whether we're getting series 6. ITV needs very good ratings for this airing in order to drop the cash on it. Theoretically, if the other partners involved in s4/5 could come up with the production funds on their own, they might not need ITV, but that's a very, very big if.

As for potential returning cast for a theoretical series 6, that's all going to depend on whether they're available and the budget can afford them when/if filming does get a go. I'd say it's very unlikely to see Jason Flemyng back, as he's got very expensive these days, but anyone else is possible so long as they're not involved in another job or get fussy about asking for a lot of money.
