Insult to the intelligence

So that it is all politics needs is it; a bit sunshine and earthy housewife common sense to sort out all our problems.

Leave this sort of political drama to the Americans, although even the West Wing is not as naive as this and at least throws moral and difficult practical dilemnas for the good hearted president and his staff to deal with.

If you wanted to know why British political drama should stick to acidic cyncism, back stabbing and Greek tragedy then watch the Emabarassing Mrs Pritchard.

By all means, do not pass up a chance to put down "the Americans."

i know right! is there not enough discrimination in this world?

reply

Maybe I like it because I'm an American ;-)

I dunno...this seems like pretty typical British (at least BBC) political drama:

1. Tories BAAAAD!!
2. American President STUUUUUPID!!
3. Naive environmentalism GOOOOOOOD!!

Repeat ad nauseam.

I didn't like the show because I didn't think it was very good; simple as that. It is derivative and familiar. I kept thinking of all those 'Rockyish' movies -- the noble underdog fighting against the evil behemoth.

The BBC has presented some great programs, but this wasn't one of them. It must have looked good on paper.

Audiences for this series started at above 5.3 million, and, by the sixth episode (and cancellation), fell to below 4 million. Compare the wonderfully quirky, very 'British' Doc Martin, which had a peak audience of more than 10 million.

Brits just turned away from 'Mrs. Pritchard,' and I can't really blame them.

Right, there is no melodrama, scandal or controversy in politics in the UK or the royal family.

Love the UK....HATE blanket prejudicial put downs.
