Stop complaining...

Before anybody else starts complaining:

1. It's free
2. It was made by some people who aren't getting paid for this as a commercial project

If you watch it with that in mind, you won't be dissapointed. Promise.

Don't complain about the plot, or the voice acting, please, because unless you supported the developers you haven't done anything to make it better.

Remember: It's a bloody technology demonstration, not some $5 billion pixar animation. If you're not a Linux or a free software geek, you probably don't get the whole concept behind the philosophy of free software and open-source software. Those who are complaining about the plot and adressing the "opensource community" like it's a single entity, please don't.

phew </rant>.

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest

I agree with the OP. Taken as a film and looked at from the point of view of story + character development etc, this is hardly the best short film ever. But if you take into account the fact that this entire thing has been made by a team using open-source software (the point of the project in the first place), then it is a very impressive accomplishment, and deserves some praise based on that alone.
